✎Noreaster Set To Impact Northeast United States Starting Tuesday

Winter Storm Derek has been named here at TriforceWeather.com and it should strike the area between Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing a dusting through the coastal zones and heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions possible for interior sections and has been given a category two status out of our one through five scale so a normal coastal type system for this time of year.

A surface low developing tonight will move northward and hit the Long Island area on Tuesday.  This rapidly deepening surface low will up the wind gusts for the entire coast zones from New Jersey through Maine, including the Boston, MA areas … which may see over 50 mph wind gusts.  Averaging from New Jersey to Maine around 40 mph, this is the type of storm that could bring power-lines down due to such high winds.

Heavy rainfall will be likely for Eastern MA and Rhode Island in the upper divergent section of the storm.  Given the instability profiles look acceptable … thunderstorms are also possible.  TFW Flood Watches may be needed this evening for this event should it continue.  Due to the winds sucking into the surface low, less precipitation is possible for the Central MA/CT areas …

Snowfall amounts are sketch at the moment but the best we can do is 6-12″ in Eastern and Northeastern PA, with the heaviest snowfall in upper elevation zones across New York .. with Albany possibly in near 6″ of snowfall with NYC at only a dusting (mainly rain).  Maine will have the largest concentration of snowfall for this event, with much of the state (excluding far south) covered it over 9+” of snowfall and Central State over 16 inches being possible.
