✎☂★Tornadoes and Large Hail Coming To Los Angeles

Pacific Storm Eric has been announced here at SouthernCaliforniaWeatherForce.com with a starting category four intensity, and this looks like one huge thunderstorm developer with the real chance of frequent lightning, heavy mountain snow, larger hail, and even the chance of tornadoes into parts of the forecast area again.  Eric will have two separate impulses for part 1 (Monday) and part 2 (Tuesday night) so keep reading on for those details.  Questions cannot be answered about details at this time but in the meantime, share this article if you are in Southern California and on our Facebook Page as well, let’s get more people in the know about what is coming and show our page means business!

A SCWF Wind Advisory is in effect for the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County regions on Monday as the first round of rainfall moves into that area.  This would be the first impulse within the larger trough that is Pacific Storm Eric.  This looks like the dynamics favoring thunderstorms will hit on Monday evening/night for parts of (Possibly Ventura) into Los Angeles, Orange, and the Inland Empire regions.  An impulse that would be the first one from Pacific Storm Eric would move into the region with a complex upper level lifting pattern.  This type of impulse is good enough for thunderstorms with it, unlike Pacific Storm Derek that only brought tornadic dynamics with no thunder, this particular impulse will bring a round of thunderstorms into the area from LA/OC/IE southward to the San Diego forecast zones.

The last and most powerful impulse comes overnight on Tuesday, where currently we are tracking this one carefully because it does have the power to produce tornado dynamics yet again and this time they will be accompanied by thunderstorms in-which the threat goes up significantly.  Steep lapse-rate profiles are suggesting that around the LA/OC areas will see large hail and the possibility for tornadoes.  Severe weather concerns are rising with Pacific Storm Eric.

Now this storm system on Tuesday night could produce one of the most widespread lightning shows across the major Southern California metro zones (seen by millions) and it may seem to out-rival Pacific Storm Derek.  However, Pacific Storm Derek was the strongest storm system dynamics we’ve seen in many years, including the strong low level jet for the wind damage, tornado potential, and torrential downpours.  Derek cannot be beat in terms of this.

But, Pacific Storm Eric for many will seem stronger.  As previously forecast, Eric’s dynamics are weak for the wind damage, very high for the thunderstorm risk, and high for rainfall rate potential in some areas.  Pacific Storm Eric has the potential to be the season’s strongest lightning +severe thunderstorm producer by far across the major metro areas.

In addition to this, we’ve issued a Winter Storm Watch for the mountains with Pacific Storm Eric.  Snow levels will be lower than 6,000 feet and even lower in convective down-bursts.  With such a system, blizzard-like conditions are possible with heavy snowfall and whiteout conditions on Tuesday night.
