✎☂★Tornado Hits Los Angeles

A category six storm on the SouthernCaliforniaWeatherForce.com storm scale came through the area overnight into Friday morning, bringing damage from falling trees onto several cars and even now a report of a possible tornado on Friday morning, with damage pictures.  We may have a confirmation here in a day or two.

The possible tornado occurred about 9 a.m. near the intersection of Gage and Vermont avenues.  It has to be confirmed, however we understand teams are heading down there.  Pacific Storm Derek was warned on for tornado potential many days before it hit by our project.   Here at SouthernCaliforniaWeatherForce.com we take weather events seriously and uphold the strongest standards in predicting the rare events in Southern California.  We issued a Tornado Watch for the coastal/basin areas on Thursday evening.  Overnight, a line of storms moved through and some signatures on radar had shown rotation and possible small tornadoes.

After the main front passed, around 9am a secondary front developed behind it across Los Angeles.  This one developed still within the area of concern, our Tornado Watch product.

Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department said there had been several reports of a “tornado” in South Los Angeles.

“You made me a believer,” stated Toni White, a viewer of the website.  “I told everyone that you were predicting damaging winds and possible tornadoes and they said I was crazy to listen to you guys.  Well, I’m glad I moved my car in the garage!”

Pacific Storm Derek’s main coldfront that brought the damaging winds and small tornadic activity has since moved off and thunderstorms are going to be possible through tonight for the Orange, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Kern County locations as the cold unstable air moves overhead.  These will be hit and miss and it will not be possible to say who will get what so you may or may not get them, but somewhere near you may.

Another storm system is shaping up for next week.  This will be Pacific Storm Eric should we categorize it above a category 1.  Category one storms do not receive a name, only called a Pacific Depression on our terms.  The next series of storms are colder in the mid-levels, which gives us a much better chance of region-wide thunderstorms.  We will address those shortly.
