A nor’easter is going to impact the region on Friday and Saturday and we have several ice storm products in place, including a watch for the same areas that got hit in PA and NJ with the last ice event.  Get all the details by reading on.

A storm system rising out of the south will impact the Carolinas first with freezing rain and snow for the Western Upper North Carolina locations and heavy rain with severe thunderstorm potential for the Eastern portions of the state come Friday into Saturday.  Our Ice Storm Warning is in effect for dangerous ice conditions atop snowfall conditions for parts of VA/WV/NC.

A storm system lifting through the area tomorrow (Friday) will bring a round of snow + ice to the region.  A couple inches+ of snow is possible, however on top of this will be the likelihood of 0.25-0.50″ of ice in the West part of Virginia and the upper elevations of West Virginia/North Carolina.  The combination of ice+snow will make for very hazardous travel conditions.

Our Ice Storm Watch however is now in effect for parts of Southeast PA, NJ, and Extreme Northern DE.

A storm system moving upwards out of the south will bring a round of snowfall to the region and and inch or two may become possible.  HOWEVER, because we believe the snow will come with ice as well, do believe that ice will form quickly so we’re looking at a dangerous snow+ice scenario with accumulations of ice between 0.10 and 0.25″ in the watch area through Saturday morning.

Heavy rainfall is expected from Central/Eastern NC/VA, South/Southeast MD and the Central/Southern half of DE to Extreme Southern NJ.

A combination of snow/ice is likely through WV/VA/PA/most of NJ/NYC/Long Island and Southern New England.  The map on the article shows that in purple.

Away from the ice zone, heavier snowfall is likely, stretching up into the Boston, MA areas on Saturday.  Light snow will fall north of that line through Pittsburgh and parts of Southern/Southeast OH and Western WV … with light snow possible as well for the Washington DC areas.

Rainfall will likely be the story for most of the Nantucket region, with strong winds.
