Snowfall hit Tucson, Arizona on New Years, leaving residents to wake up to a rare snowfall event.

A cold Canadian air-mass that was responsible for snowfall in rare low Southern California elevation areas moved into Arizona overnight on New Years Eve. The original TriforceWeather.com forecast here suggested that snowfall would be possible while other forecasters did not think so. So in essence, it was a surprise to many that did not receive our forecast via the app/email alert system we have in place.

So let’s get to how it happened. Dry/cold air sucked into a surface low moving over the area and a post-frontal zone lifting zone moved through, generating the needed 0-2″ that fell in the Tucson Metro areas.
