The latest satellite/radar composite image shows we do have the atmospheric river hitting California right now, spreading up through Oregon and Washington. Thunderstorms were reported near Sacramento this morning ahead of the front and these dynamics look to increase across the West Coast through this weekend and possibly even on Monday as well.

Wind gusts in excess of 90 mph have been reported near Reno, Nevada and viewers are reporting a dust storm in that area. San Francisco is reporting 40 mph wind gusts as of noon today.
We’re still focusing on the severe thunderstorm potential with this storm, especially toward the end of the weekend and through Monday across Northern California. This is going to be watches carefully as grids here at NationalWeatherForce.com are showing the potential of low-topped supecells capable of large hail, damaging winds, and even the tornado potential on the rise.
