California: Rare Severe Weather Event To Impact
A strong storm system with strong lift and instability dynamics will cause isolated thunderstorms across the San Francisco Bay area tonight with gusty winds to 40 mph and isolated severe wind/shearing to isolated tornado potential from there through the Sacramento Valley through Tuesday morning so read on below for details.
At the current time the Eureka, California forecast zones have had isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall and the latest satellite images show the storm front moving toward the San Francisco Bay areas for an impact between midnight and 2am, but most assuredly it will be an overnight event for those zones. The front will blast through San Francisco’s forecast zone with wind gusts over 40 mph and isolated thunderstorms. Due to the shear along the front along with marginal instability … I cannot rule out isolated tornado potential along the immediately front with embedded areas of rotation, but for the most part this will be a squall-line event with damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
This line will move east into the Sacramento Valley between the 3:00-6:00am hour on Tuesday morning, with the same dynamics as San Francisco where we have our in-house model showing it nicely in the images below and in the video above so make sure you watch the video and view the images.
As for the rest of the day, an additional impulse will impact behind the main front with storms re-firing inland and these will produce large hail and maybe isolated tornado potential in the valley areas …
This is not a run of the mill type storm, numerous severe thunderstorms will form with it along with the potential for damage due to the winds …
