Drought Slammed Southern California Gets Much Needed Rainfall

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Los Angeles has thunderstorms as projected in forecasts and heavy rain fell across the forecast area within our Flood Watch zone but we are not through with this late season storm as more rain will hit on Friday for some while others get the ‘shaft’ (no rain) … more widespread than today so read on for details and watch the video in here.

A double day system we call it in the weather office where we get the warm front one day and the cold front the next day equaling to two days of rain events.  Today, clearing skies after the morning rain event brought enough instability to the region to pop off thunderstorms in Los Angeles and another group in the Temecula/Vista zones in both Southern Riverside and Northern San Diego County. The Hazardous Weather Advisory for these storms will be expiring overnight tonight … leaving the flood watch to remain.  I apologize in advance to the couple being married tomorrow on our page … We answered your question when Dallas could not … This is what SCWF specializes in … so I hope you have a nice day but hey look on the bright-side they say when rain hits on the day you get married that it is considered good luck for the rest of your lives … Congratulations …

We will have a break overnight for most but the most compact area of rain hits tomorrow (Friday).

A day ago the surface low looked to veer south and today it kept doing so.  So what I’m going to think right now is the instability will be much lower due to rainfall already nailing the region in the morning so this is indeed mainly one big heavy rain event for LA/OC/IE/SD zones … and this is what we need so no one seems to be complaining.

This surface low’s southerly movement however will put Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Kern County within a drier section and this is why the Flood Watch was held for all this time from going further west than Los Angeles County and the flood watch will remain through Friday.

The northern extent of this system will be in the Southern High Desert centering the Victor Valley metro areas and you’ll get more rain as well … along with east into the Low Desert regions all the way to Blythe.

The snowfall has been meager for Big Bear today, but snow levels will remain at around 6,500-7,000 feet through Friday.  Initial estimations of 2-4″ of snowfall for these regions seem plausible with higher amounts above 8,000 feet …

Residual showers are possible near the foothills on Saturday with the left-over low level moisture and heating of the day … otherwise partly cloudy in the morning to mostly cloudy to cloudy in the afternoon …
