Source: Erika May Impact Florida Early This Next Week

Tropical Storm Erika will continue moving toward Florida through the weekend, setting an impact as a tropical storm or low grade hurricane to Florida early this next week.

The storm system is currently east of Puerto Rico and this likely will move directly over the island later on Friday as a tropical storm.  Erika continues to move westward and current models here at National Weather Force shows it south of most of the models and coming in near Miami early this next week.

Erika has a lot of chances to strengthen, however right now we think she’ll hold off until just before Florida and go to an upper end tropical storm or a low grade hurricane.  Areas from Miami to Cape Canaveral looks about where she will landfall.

Some models take her into the Gulf and strengthen majorly, however at this time we do not think the Atlantic Ridge will be placed far enough north for this to happen.  She’ll eventually go through Florida and turn north from Orlando.

We’ll have an update on Friday evening for Erika if things change … if not … NWF will be unavailable from 8/29 to 9/6 and we’ll do the best we can do post a last update on Erika before vacation of the NWF team.
