Two Tesla execs to leave amid Musk’s “hardcore” cost and workforce reduction: report
It appears that Tesla is definitely being led by a “wartime CEO” once more. This was hinted at in a recent report, which claimed that two more senior executives are leaving the company amidst Musk’s serious efforts to optimize the company’s workforce.
As per a recent report from The Information, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has dismissed Senior Director of EV Charging Rebecca Tinucci and Director of Vehicle Programs and New Product Introduction (NPI) Daniel Ho. Both executives will reportedly be leaving Tesla on Tuesday morning. Tinucci has worked for Tesla for over 6 years, while Ho has worked at the company for more than 10 years.
It would not just be the executives who would be leaving the company, as the report also claimed that Tinucci and Ho’s teams would be affected by Musk’s workforce reduction. As noted by Reuters, these reportedly include the 500 workers who work in the Tesla Supercharger team. Tesla’s public policy team, which was previously led by former executive Rohan Patel, will reportedly be cut as well.
“Hopefully these actions are making it clear that we need to be absolutely hardcore about headcount and cost reduction. While some on exec staff are taking this seriously, most are not yet doing so. Starting at 10 AM EST on Tuesday, I will ask for the resignation of any executive who retains more than three people who don’t obviously pass the excellent, necessary and trustworthy test… I have been super clear about this,” Musk reportedly wrote.
Tinucci and Ho represent the latest executive departures from the electric vehicle maker. Earlier this month, former SVP of Powertrain and Energy Engineering Drew Baglino and Vice President for Public Policy and Business Development Rohan Patel announced that they were leaving Tesla. Both Baglino and Patel received personal messages of thanks from Musk on social media platform X for their contributions to Tesla over the years.
For context, at the end of 2023, Tesla reported that it had 140,473 workers globally. Elon Musk, for his part, noted that every five years, Tesla needs to “reorganize and streamline the company for the next phase of growth.”
