Top Five Cigar Apps for iPhone

The iPhone app world is exploding with new apps for the cigar aficionado.  If you need help keep tracking of your humidor inventory, locating a cigar shop, smoking location or checking out reviews on cigars you haven’t tried yet, then there’s an app out there for you.

Like with anything else, not all cigar apps are created equal and most of the ones that are not games or fake smoking cigars, cost money.  You wouldn’t just pick up a random cigar to buy (or maybe you would, but most often your buy is based on someone’s advice), don’t buy your cigar apps like that either.  Do a little research and spend your money wisely.

After reviewing the apps currently available on iTunes, these five apps stood out from the rest.  They all offer a good value for the money and offer a useful service (unlike the faking smoking apps which are fun for a minute then become another forgotten app) such as inventory tracking, cigar references and store and smoking locators. 

1.    Perelman’s Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars – $3.99

This app is an adaption of the Perelman’s Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars book.  Now you can just carry the “book” with you on your phone.  Thousands of cigar brands are accessible with information such as sizes, shapes, country of origin, wrappers, fillers and binders.  The app has three search categories that include handmade, machine-made, and small cigars.  You are given the ability to tag your favorites and add your own notes.

2.    Stogie Rate – $4.99

This mobile cigar inventory allows you to track and inventory your personal humidor.  It also gives you access to Stogie Fresh 5 podcasts and videos for reviews and commentary on cigars.  The Stogie Rate is also a pocket cigar reference guide complete with photos of cigars and brands.

3.    Cigar Geeks Application – $3.99

Pre-loaded with a searchable database of over 33,000 cigars, complete with reviews for more than half of them, this app is the cigar enthusiast’s dream.  The app synchronizes with the Cigar Geeks website, which allows access to your account through the app and website.  Track multiple humidors, adding your own tasting notes and keep up with the ages and prices of the cigars in your inventory.

4.    Cigar Places – $1.99

This global directory helps you find cigar friendly places anywhere in the world, making it perfect for any traveling cigar smoker.  The app uses GPS maps to not only tell you the name and location of cigar bars, lounges and shops but will give you a map and directions to get there.  You also get pictures and descriptions of the locations to help make your choices easier.

5.    Cigar Boss Pro – $2.99

This app combines the locator, inventory tracker and cigar descriptions all in one app.  Thousands of cigars for you to check out and the ability to add ones that are not listed in the database.  You also can rate your favorites, get professional reviews for cigars you are considering and find your way to local stores using the GPS map system.  Track your personal inventory and make notes to remind you of things you like or didn’t like.

Cigar smoking is an old tradition embraced by new technology.  Don’t let smoking bans stop you from enjoying your cigar, use an app to find a new place to smoke or to do research for finding a new cigar to try.  Instead of having to wait, look up reviews instantly while shopping in the cigar shop and make educated purchases to add new cigars to your collection.  Spend more time enjoying the good life by using cigar apps for the iPhone.
