Saturday, 2/17, 9-5: Oakland Black College Expo to give over $1 million in scholarships, on-the-spot college acceptances
15th annual Black College Expo to provide Bay Area students path to college
WHO/WHAT:
Wells Fargo has teamed up with the Oakland Black College Expo in an effort to curtail the high school dropout rate and increase college enrollment among Bay Area students.
The Oakland Black College Expo provides an opportunity for students to receive on-the-spot college admissions and more than $1 million in scholarship support for high school students considering attendance at a Historically Black College/University (HBCU). Student will also have the opportunity to meet with Wells Fargo recruiters about internship and career opportunities.
In 2017, more than 4,000 college acceptances were awarded to Bay Area students at the Oakland Black College Expo.

“I live for the moment when a student or parents thought getting college was impossible because of financial constraints, and then they come to one of our expos and get accepted into college and receive financial assistance to help them stay in college and achieve their goals. I feel like I am living out my purpose to help them,” said Theresa Price, Black College Expo founder and executive director.
“Wells Fargo’s success is tied to the success of the communities we serve, and we know that education is the gateway to so many opportunities. That is why we want to empower youth and help them advance their educational aspirations,” said Christina Pels-Martinez, Wells Fargo Mid Valley Bay region bank president.
