Comet Elenin's tail may be more of a threat than impact

Having heard about the “comet” called Elenin or by NASA name,  C/2010 X1 Elenin, I decided to go do some digging around.  The reason my interest suddenly peaked in this particular topic, is that I noticed an article written about it which mentioned the real threat from this space monster isn’t from an impact…but from our passing through its apparent tail.  It is really undecided by the international astronomical community as to whether this space debris is a comet or some sort of asteroid gone awry.  And as of yet, no one seems to be commenting, at least truthfully, on it’s size.  What we do know is that it will, if it remains at current speed and course, pass relatively close to the Earth during the early part of September of this year.  The risk of any impact is apparently not likely.  But according to the orbital mapping system at NASA, from general estimates, I’ve surmised that the Earth is likely to pass through this comet’s tail on or about November 2nd.  Running a typical internet search will blow your mind in regards to wild theories and conspiracies regarding the content of a comet’s tail and its possible impacts, both positive and negative on the planet.  I think it’s safe to say that no one really has a clue what might be in Elenin’s tail…nor what the consequences or effects of us passing through it might end up being.  Running a search on Elenin also will turn up any number of theories about the strange relations to this comet and the movie DEEP IMPACT.  While I don’t put too much faith in strange “similarities” myself, I had to admit that some of the data I read was pretty odd.  There is also mention here and there of the curious nature of this comet’s supposed discovery by an amateur Russian Astronomer named Leonid Elenin, the comet’s namesake of course.  Lots of mystery surrounding this new little occupant of our inner system.  During the coming months, perhaps…we’ll discover a bit more about it.  In the meantime, I’ll include some links for you to monitor this ominous little rock.
