"Orphan planets" more common than stars

I always thought that the sky is supposed to be full of stars. I suppose that all those teachers were wrong all along. These astronomers, including a NASA funded team member, found out a new class of Jupiter-sized planets floating in the dark of space, away from the light of a star. These lone worlds were rejected from the developing planetary systems.

These orphan planets might be more common than stars.

These free floating planets or “orphans” have been predicted for a long time, but it was never found. This new discovery was based on a joint Japan-New Zealand survey that scanned the center of the Milky Way galaxy during 2006 and 2007.

These free floaters were never detected until now. They are located at an average approximate distance of 10,000 to 20,000 light years from Earth. This new discovery means that there are many of these Jupiter-sized isolated orbs out there that cannot be seen.

The team estimates that there are twice as may of them as stars. These worlds are at least as common as planets that orbit stars. When you think about it, there could billions of lone planets in our Milky Way alone. The planetary systems become unstable sometimes. And they kick out these orbs from their birth place.

Its intriguing and somewhat surprising to hear that there are planets like ours or Jupiter’s that floats in the dark space. These lone planets somehow feels like a ghost or something that give off some sort of eerie energy. That’s my room I guess.
