August 19, 2011: All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) gave a call for Punjab Bandh on Monday 22nd August to highlight the anti-corruption campaign initiated by Anna Hazare and to highlight the lack of prosecution for decade long killing of Sikhs in the hands of Indian forces.
AISSF President Karnail Singh Peermohammad appealed the public to show solidarity with the cause of anti-corruption and lack of prosecution by closing down the commercial, educational and government establishments till 12 noon on Monday, August 22nd.
Declaring the campaign to eradicate corruption from India as necessary but insufficient, AISSF President Karnail Singh Peermohammad urged Anna to also include accountability for systematic killing of religious minorities and impunity for human rights violations on his agenda.
Pointing to the plight of religious minorities who are facing existential threats at the hands of Indian government and its policies, Peermohammad reminded the world that while financial corruption is undoubtedly rampant in India, it is hardly the gravest problem for religious minorities who are facing a bigger problem of extinction.
Starting with the systematic killing of Sikhs in November 1984 in which thousands of Sikhs were killed throughout India religious minorities are being targeted systematically.
