Pentagon: China Has Workable “Aircraft Killer” Missiles

China has developed a “workable design” of the world’s first anti-ship ballistic missile, potentially capable of hitting and disabling a U.S. aircraft carrier, according to Pentagon officials.
China also has satellites in place “that could provide some targeting data on large surface ships in the region, and this expanding infrastructure is augmented by non-space-based sensors and surveillance assets,” said Navy Commander Leslie Hull-Ryde, a Pentagon spokeswoman on China, in an e-mail.
“Over the next few years, we expect China will work to refine and integrate many emerging systems, including the DF- 21D” missile, she said.
The Pentagon statement, issued today in response to questions posed by Bloomberg News, provides details on the DF- 21D not included in the Defense Department’s annual assessmentof China’s military power released yesterday.
Chinese advances in military technology are drawing administration and congressional scrutiny. The Pentagon is concerned that China may threaten the dominance of U.S. naval forces in the Pacific region.
In addition to the anti-ship missile, the Pentagon report said China has “continued work on itsaircraft carrier and finalized the prototype of its first stealth aircraft.”
China also has advanced, “Sizzler” sea-skimming, anti- ship cruise missiles. Ballistic missiles like the DF-21D descend from space at supersonic speeds and therefore are harder to defend against.

Uhhhh…like we don’t?
Thats what I thought, lol. We used anti ship missiles in the first gulf war ffs.
The problem is we have no effective (unclassified) way of defending against this missile. It could render an entire battle group noneffective in minutes
Just one EMP over any US fleet will render them bath tub toys.
You know it, I know it, they know it.
The Pacific Ocean is now the new Perl Harbor. The USN is as arrogant now as it was when the Japanese bombers blew their Pacific Fleet to crap. Anybody fielding any type of Aircraft Carrier in the next ocean combat theater will find their archaic WWII technology is a sitting duck.
The single biggest threat to the American military is the 2 dimensional war fighting capability of slow moving ships eg USN.
Problem is, the USN is more of a political and macho character than it
is a proven 21st century military arm that can actually meet 21st century threats. Sadly, I will live to see their Pacific Fleet yet again be destroyed within minutes. Chicoms know it, I know it, but tell that to the pompous over saluted arm of the US armed forces the USN.
