Iran delays Gulf of Hormuz missile tests – Asks for talks with major powers ~ link ~ Iran does not want war. It knows that any General Middle East War is apt to involve weapons of mass destruction very early on and will totally get out of hand. They have a MAD (mutually assured destruction) Counter-Force with Israel and NATO utilizing their massive Advanced Biological Warfare capabilities, but as the MAD name implies, it would be insane to ‘go there’. Killing most Israelis and Saudis and maybe a third of North America’s and Europe’s civilian populations would do no good to Iran, as its people would be totally wiped out. Iran said it had delayed promised long-range missile tests in the Gulf on Saturday and signaled it was ready for fresh talks with the West on its disputed nuclear program.
Iran’s state media initially reported early on Saturday that long-range missiles had been launched during naval exercises, a move likely to irk the West, which is concerned over threats by Tehran to close off a vital oil shipping route in the Gulf.
But Deputy Navy Commander Mahmoud Mousavi later went on the English language Press TV channel to deny the missiles had in fact been fired: “The exercise of launching missiles will be carried out in the coming days.”

For five hours therefore, world shipping obeyed Tehran’s warning and gave the narrow waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes, a wide berth. They stayed out of range of a test which, debkafile‘s military sources report, aimed to demonstrate for the first time that Shahab-3 ballistic missiles which have a range of 1,600 kilometers and other missiles, such as the Nasr1cruise marine missile, are capable of reaching Hormuz from central Iran.

Speaking at a meeting of top Israeli ambassadors in Jerusalem, Mossad chief Tamir Pardo rejected the notion that Iran, even if they were nuclear armed, constituted an “existential threat,” saying the term is being used “too freely.”
“If you said a nuclear bomb in Iranian hands was an ‘existential’ threat, that would mean that we would have to close up shop. That’s not the situation,” Pardo insisted. The claim that such a situation would be an existential threat has been a common talking point among hawks in both Israel and the US.
Pardo is the latest in a growing line of Israeli intelligence officials who have been making comments unfavorable to the Netanyahu government’s pro-war stance. His predecessor, Meir Dagan, had cautioned openly against attacking Iran, warning it would lead to a “regional war.” The comments spawned angry condemnations from political leaders.

The recent allegations made by the United States against Iran have set the stage for a war against the Islamic Republic, an American analyst says.
“With the typical backdrop of alarmist propaganda in place, the stage is now set for a new war, this time with Iran,” Robert Parry said in an article on Global Research.
“There is now a cascading of allegations regarding Iran, as there was with Iraq, with the momentum rushing toward war,” he added.
The analyst noted that “tougher and tougher Western sanctions against Iran have pushed the various sides closer to war… as happened with Iraq — when harsher economic sanctions merged with a US troop build-up.”
Warning of “devastating consequences” of a “prospective war with Iran,” Parry also said Washington’s allegation that Iran is on pace to build a nuclear bomb resembles accusations that Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).

Yes, there are certainly a lot of potential catastrophic events that one can worry about in the times in which we live, but the number one catastrophic event that Americans worry about is actually “economic collapse”. At least that is what a recent survey conducted by Leiflin Inc. for the EcoHealth Alliance found. But this goes along with what so many other polls have found over the past few years. Over and over again, opinion polls have found that the number one issue that American voters are concerned about is the economy. The truth is that average Americans are deeply, deeply concerned about unemployment, debt, the housing crash and the steady decline in the standard of living. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most vibrant middle class that the world has ever seen. Unfortunately, that is rapidly changing. The decline of the middle class is not something that has happened all of a sudden. Rather, there has been a relentless grinding down of the middle class over the last several decades. Today I went over to Safeway and I was absolutely appalled at the prices. I honestly don’t know how most families make it these days. I ended up paying over 140 dollars for about two-thirds of a cart of food. That was after I “saved” 67 dollars on sale items.
When the cost of the basic things that we need – housing, food, gas, electricity – go up faster than our incomes do, that means that we are getting poorer.
Sadly, if you look at the long-term numbers, some very clear negative trends emerge….
