Urinating Into The Wind

Sometimes the hypocrisy and lies get so blatant, so egregious, that life has a to step in to tell it like it is because no one seems to be getting it. The only problem is that ‘life’ usually speaks in metaphor or symbols that require sharp eyes to spot. But even so, the recent case of American soldiers pissing on dead Afghans was hard to miss as a perfect description of US government and military attitude towards Afghanistan, and, come to think of it, the rest of the world.

Among the media pundit and political responses to the event, which included a claim by TV chat show host Montel Williams that ‘stress’ made the soldiers do it, and CNN contributor and radio host Dana Loesch’s suggestion she would have done the same as the soldiers -  “I’d have dropped trou and done it too” -, I particularly enjoyed Hilary Clinton’s heartfelt comments. Looking for all the world like an uglier version of Nefertiti, Clinton expressed her “total dismay at the deplorable behavior”, and  said it was “absolutely inconsistent with American values and standards of behavior that we expect from our military personnel”.

And how right she is. Soldiers are machines, and follow orders. And in the absence of direct orders, such as how to behave in with the immediate aftermath of the murder of one or more individuals in which one has directly participated, soldiers, like children, will take their example from authority figures, like Hilary Clinton for example:

Reaction to the ‘scandal’ in Afghanistan was prefect, at least from the point of view of those seeking to prolong the justification for the US military’s war of conquest and colonisation. The top negotiator from Afghan puppet president Karzai’s High Peace Council, Arsala Rahmani, said that it would have a ‘very, very bad impact on peace efforts’. He added: ‘Looking at such action, the Taliban can easily recruit young people and tell them that their country has been attacked by Christians and Jews and they must defend it.’  So that answers the question of how and why this video was leaked. It’s called psyops, and this one was pretty easy. When peace threatens to break out (in this case because there is no real enemy to speak of), enraging a few locals by showing some jack-booted thugs pissing on their countrymen always works well to keep the war machine rolling (in money).
