Europe desperate to buy time for Iran Oil Ban says MP ~ link ~ Deputy Chairman of Iran Majlis Energy Committee Nasser Soudani said on Saturday, “So far the ambassadors of several European countries such as France, Greece, Germany and Italy have desperately rushed to the parliament to call for restraint against passing a bill on stopping [the Iranian] oil exports to Europe.”

On Saturday, January 28, Majlis Energy Committee said it has finalized a draft bill to put an end to the country’s oil exports to the EU member states.

The committee added that based on the double-urgency bill, the Islamic Republic would halt all oil exports to the European countries as long as they continue to ban oil imports from Iran.

In their January 23 meeting in Brussels, EU foreign ministers imposed new sanctions on Iran which include a ban on purchasing oil from the country, a freeze on the assets of Iran’s Central Bank within the EU, and a ban on the sale of diamonds, gold and other precious metals to Iran.

The sanctions will become fully effective on July 1, 2012, to give EU member states enough time to adjust to new conditions and find alternative crude oil supplies.

Soudani further highlighted that the double-urgency bill is still on the table and that the Iranian lawmakers have expressed readiness to approve it.

The lawmaker, however, added that Iran’s Majlis does not aim to “enter into war with the world,” stressing that the European countries have created tensions.

Analyst: Europe coughing up cash for US military gamble in Iran – with video ~ link ~ Political analyst Chris Bambery believes Tehran is referring to leading European powers like Britain and France when it refers to “certain” countries. He cites well-documented Western fears of Iranian-directed terrorist attacks in the US and Europe and Tehran’s possession of missiles capable of reaching both. “The Iranians must understand from recent history that the history of sanctions, like in the case of the former Yugoslavia or Iraq, has been to soften up those countries in preparation for a military assault,” Bambery told RT.

Head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Sunday that a war with Iran would have consequences for Israel that are far worse than the war with Lebanon.

The Iranian lawmaker said if Israel commits the folly of waging war against Iran it could change the geography of the Middle East and would result in a serious security challenge for Israel. Boroujerdi said Iran’s advancements in different fields, which are made despite international sanctions, irk Israel. “The Zionist regime [of Israel] considers regional revolutions, which have Islamic tendencies and are modeled after the Islamic Revolution of Iran, a serious threat and thinks a war with Iran is the answer to all its security challenges,” he concluded.

Boroujerdi’s remarks come after Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya’alon threatened Iran with a military strike against its nuclear facilities in an attempt to force the country to abandon its peaceful nuclear energy program.

Iran warns neighbors against assisting US ~ link ~ A senior Iranian military official says Tehran will attack any country used by “enemies” to launch a military strike against his country. The statement comes amid growing tensions between Iran and the West.

“Any spot used by the enemy for hostile operations against Iran will be subjected to retaliatory aggression by our armed forces,” the deputy head of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, said Sunday according to Iran’s Fars news agency.

NATO vs Syria ~ link ~ NATO is already clandestinely engaged in the Syrian conflict, with Turkey taking the lead as U.S. proxy. Ankara’s foreign minister, Ahmet Davitoglu, has openly admitted that his country is prepared to invade as soon as there is agreement among the Western allies to do so. The intervention would be based on humanitarian principles, to defend the civilian population based on the “responsibility to protect” doctrine that was invoked to justify Libya. Turkish sources suggest that intervention would start with creation of a buffer zone along the Turkish-Syrian border and then be expanded. Aleppo, Syria’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, would be the crown jewel targeted by liberation forces.

Unmarked NATO warplanes are arriving at Turkish military bases close to Iskenderum on the Syrian border, delivering weapons from the late Muammar Gaddafi’s arsenals as well as volunteers from the Libyan Transitional National Council who are experienced in pitting local volunteers against trained soldiers, a skill they acquired confronting Gaddafi’s army. Iskenderum is also the seat of the Free Syrian Army, the armed wing of the Syrian National Council. French and British special forces trainers are on the ground, assisting the Syrian rebels while the CIA and U.S. Spec Ops are providing communications equipment and intelligence to assist the rebel cause, enabling the fighters to avoid concentrations of Syrian soldiers.

CIA analysts are skeptical regarding the march to war. The frequently cited United Nations report that more than 3,500 civilians have been killed by Assad’s soldiers is based largely on rebel sources and is uncorroborated. The Agency has refused to sign off on the claims. Likewise, accounts of mass defections from the Syrian Army and pitched battles between deserters and loyal soldiers appear to be a fabrication, with few defections being confirmed independently. Syrian government claims that it is being assaulted by rebels who are armed, trained, and financed by foreign governments are more true than false.

Syria now fertile soil for US war ~ link ~ A political analyst says the United States and NATO are preparing the grounds for a military intervention in Syria under the pretext of “humanitarian grounds.”

“A US-NATO led intervention, which would inevitably involve Israel, is already on the drawing board of the Pentagon,” Michel Chossudovsky wrote in an article published on Global Research.

The author said a report conducted by the Arab League observer mission in Syria dispelled the mainstream media lies and fabrications, used by Washington to push for “regime change” in the country.

“[The Arab League mission] was also pressured into upholding the lies and fabrications of the mainstream media, which have been used to demonize the government of Bashar al-Assad,” Chossudovsky said.

Chossudovsky resembled the situation in Syria to Libya as in both cases armed terrorists supported by British and French Special Forces and said the armed Free Syrian Army is made up of Salafists and al-Qaeda affiliated militia covertly supported by Turkey, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s Foreign Minister: Intervention in Syria can blow up Mideast ~ link ~ Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi warns that any military intervention in Syria will have devastating repercussions in the Middle East and would lead to the “explosion” of the entire region.

“I’m confident that any military action against Syria will blow up the entire region … a military intervention does not solve any problem, especially because the Syrian situation differs from that of Libya, seeing the country’s sole role is fighting Israel,” Salehi said in an interview with Lebanese Al-Manar television station broadcast on Saturday night.

He added that “Syria is now paying the price of its resistance.”

Salehi also expressed surprise over the Arab League actions with regards to Syria, at a time when the observer mission is still performing its job in Syria.

The Iranian foreign minister said Russia and China are aware of the Western project to fragmentize the region.

“The Russians are aware now that the Western states are interfering in the Middle East to draw a new map for the region,” he said.
