The one responsible for the spiritual war we are in had an argument with the rule of Heaven and God’s Kingdom.  He exalted himself and his knowledge above the knowledge of God and, therefore, the Word of God.  The instigator of this war had an angelic name that is no loner mentioned.  He is known only as the Adversary or Satan.  He is sometimes called Lucifer in the Bible and is the original covering angel over God.  Apparently he didn’t like the way Almighty God was ruling and reigning and figured he could do better.  So, he decided he would exalt himself on to his own throne above the “stars of God”, which is a commonly used term for the angels of Heaven.  On top of that, he wanted his throne to be next to Almighty God Himself as co-equal.  The mount of the congregation is the area of Heaven where the Throne Room is.  He stated clearly he would be “like” the Most High.

 Isaiah 14:12-14 ( NKJV )

 ¹²    “How you are fallen from heaven,

    O Lucifer, son of the morning!

    How you are cut down to the ground,

    You who weakened the nations!

¹³    For you have said in your heart:

    ‘I will ascend into heaven,

    I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;

    I will also sit on the mount of the congregation

    On the farthest sides of the north;

¹⁴    I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,

    I will be like the Most High.’

 Essentially the job of being the covering angel over God and being His praise leader went to his head.  Instead of seeing himself as a servant he began to IMAGINE himself to be God-like.  From his perspective he began to imagine that the angelic hosts he led in worship were worshiping him and not the Ancient of Days, God Almighty.  He allowed his pride and vanity to overcome reason and morph into an irrational belief.  This vanity, or VAIN IMAGINATION as the KJV states, is common to everyone, even the angels, with delusions of grandeur.

What is implied here is that Lucifer became the “adversary” (haSatan) against Jesus/Yeshua when he coveted His throne and set about a plan to take the throne by force.  What is amazing about this is that Lucifer was there in the beginning and would have seen Jesus/Yeshua speak everything into existence as noted in John 1:1-5.  It would take an extremely deluded vain ego to imagine he could defeat the One who spoke him into existence.  That’s what imaginations do to us.

This offense was so horrible in the eyes of God that the original name of this created angel (something with an “el” as the end to indicate he was “of God”) was left unspoken and he would only from that time on be known by his label – the adversary or a description – the dragon.  His rebellion was so offensive to Heaven itself it was declared he would never be called by his crated name again.

Make note that if letting an “imagination” run away defeated Satan it will be an area he will use to cause your defeat as well.  And, therefore we come to the next area of power given to us – “bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”.  The source of the angelic rebellion was in thoughts that were not obedient to God the Father.

The Greek word for “captivity” in this scripture means to literally lead something away as a captive or to bring it into a place of captivity or imprisonment.  The word for thought used here is “perception” which is a thought process that uses our senses to obtain information about a situation.  It’s our senses, or fleshly nature, that leads us into danger.  If our senses could be trusted we wouldn’t be told to “walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).  So, according to Paul, this demonic or satanic element of our human nature must be subjected and imprisoned by something and that is the Word of God – the living word (Rhema) and the written word (Logos) –Jesus/Yeshua Himself.  He is our example in all things both natural and supernatural. 

Your battlefield will always be your mind and the place you will always be taken down to defeat is in your perception of things (wants, desires, needs, etc.) when it disagrees with the Word of God.

Let me play this out for you – you are driving late at night.  No one else is on the road with you.  There is not a car or pedestrian in sight.  You’re tired and you want to get home.  So, at the next red light you begin to rationalize in your head the need to obey the traffic laws and take it upon yourself to imagine that your need for rest and desire to get home supersedes the law that says you must stop at a red light and wait for it to turn green before proceeding.  You are making a judgment call based upon your perception of things at that moment is based upon personal desires and not right & wrong.  Therefore you may decide just this one time to run the light and get home.  Whether anyone has seen you or not, you have broken the law.  If there is a policeman there you will most undoubtedly get a ticket.

Let’s examine the first victim of the haSatan’s ability to “mesmerize” (To spellbind; enthrall) with his words.

Genesis 3:1-6(NKJV)
¹Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
²And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
³but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”
⁴Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
⁵For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
⁶So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

The serpent seduced Eve by his words and convinced here to see, seek her own pleasure and her own desires which led her to sin.

Remember, this is an Eve that has everything; wants for nothing and, as yet, has no sin nature.  If the god of this world can seduce her what do you think he can do for you if you do not guard your mind?
