WW3 - Just light it up already! I mean, really....

Let me start by saying that as much as anyone, I would love nothing more than to see a world like John Lennon imagined – with no war, no countries, yadda yadda yadda. Just billions of people of all races and ideologies holding hands and singing “Kumbaya.” Ok, so maybe that’s not entirely honest, as that would probably be horrible, but I think you get the underlying meaning of what I’m saying. War is absolutely horrible, and probably the most egregious expression of humanity’s ugliness that I can think of. It would be great if we, all of us as a global population could figure out how to avoid it completely.

That being said, I would like to be the first to say (since no one else seems to have yet), just get on with WW3 already and quit dragging it out! The world situation right now is like watching kids on the playground taunting each other – “I’m gonna’ smash your face in!” “Oh yeah? I’m gonna’ knock your teeth out!!” “Oh YEAH?! Well I’m gonna’….” ad naseum. The global tuants grow more and more each day, and it’s as if everyone is just itching to pull the trigger, but no one wants to be the one to throw the first punch and get blamed for starting what could be the war to end all wars. Here is today’s rundown if you’re not sure what I’m talking about :

First, we have the now well-known downing of a Turkish jet by Syria -

I mean, how can anyone hear about this and not think “What the? Are they TRYING to start a war???” Doesn’t Syria have enough scrutinization right now given what’s happening within its borders? Why would they want to provoke an outside entity?

What I found truly hilarious (yes, I know – I’m a bit sick) was this post on a Turkish news website about the incident -

You gotta’ LOVE that title, don’t ya’? “Turkey not to invoke Art. 5, NATO war in Syria as unlikely as ever” Yes, it should be obvious to anyone that the downing of the Turkish jet by Syria made a war as unlikely as ever. Wait – what?

Then, there’s the election of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi to President in Egypt, and the interesting effects that might have on the Egypt-Iran-Israel relationship -

In the article, Morsi is quoted as saying he would call to restore ties between Tehran and Cairo, which he said would create a “strategic balance” in the region. That sounds innocent enough, right? I mean, why in the world would I or anyone else think that Egypt restoring ties with Iran and ‘reviewing’ the peace treaty with Israel could have any negative impacts, or possibly contribute to a war?

And lastly, is this what they mean by a “false flag” operation?

Nothing says “let’s try to maintain the peace” better than raising the flag of your isolated, agitated and unstable neighbor in live fire combat exercises only 50km from their border, right? Especially seeing as how they are so understanding and tolerant and all…

Is it just me, or does it seem like some – a lot actually – of people in powerful positions are actually TRYING to light this fuse? I have sometimes wondered if the people running these countries aren’t just looking for some excuse to start this whole thing, but no one wants to be the one to throw the first punch.

Well, I for one am sick of all the saber rattling, all the promises of “diplomatic solutions,” all the explanations for why they did this or that, all the NATO this and UN that – it gets rather monotonous, doesn’t it? Just like the whole Eurozone/stock market dynamic. One day, it’s “stock market up as Eurozone fears ease,” only to see the headline the next day read “stock market tumbles on Eurozone fears,” only to see the very next day “stock market up as Eurozone fears ease” – I mean, do they really need reporters to write this crap? Just put a revolving text ad in there, and change it back and forth from day to day for goodness sake!

So I say, in the immortal words of Maverick and Goose in everyone’s favorite 80′s flick ‘Top Gun’ – “Kick the tires and light the fires!” Launch the ships, fly the planes, position the drones, recall all the diplomats, cut diplomatic ties, start the embargos, rattle the sabers a little more, and get it on already! And if all this doesn’t result in war, well – then that’s even more scary. Because then one has to wonder – what was all this for, if not to provoke one? Theories abound, and only time will tell what is true and what is not. I welcome any comments, ideas or theories.
