A Scientific Theory to the Mysteries of Spirits

  There are mysteries in this world that many people contemplate, on a daily basis, if they could be real. One of these questionable and highly debatable subjects is the existence of spirits or ghosts. Every society, throughout time, has had their own stories, experiences, and answers to what they might be. A common belief factor from not only societies as a whole, but nearly every individual who entertains the idea of spirits, is that it is based around religion. No matter what religion it may be, they all have their own answer to why these souls stay behind in our world after death. What about a scientific answer though? A perspective that removes religion from the equation to find a solution within the parameters of what the universe and physics tells us might just be the real answer we have been looking for all along. Years of paranormal scientific obsession have made me question many possibilities before finally formulating, what I believe to be, a sound and plausible theory as to what these specters may be.

I have had countless conversations and debates about the existence of ghosts and what they may be. Many people have even presented opinions of what they believe it may be from the same scientific perspective I have taken. I have explored these possibilities from almost every angle I can bring my mind to grasp and rational. As an example, could it be a clashing of dimensions, giving us a glimpse into their world? String theory would seem to provide that as a feasible option and is one that I held for a long time, but thinking further into it, I was forced to set it aside as an answer still leaving too many questions to be correct. Another dimension colliding with ours could sensibly produce the result, but only small glimpses, at random, and occurring in any and all places. For a set place to be haunted by a spirit of a pre-existing human with strong ties to that location would disband that it is a momentary clash of universes. Some have asked, “what if that event opened a “door” to let these beings through?” If that were the case, then what would stop these entities from pouring through into our world? Too me, the sense just isn’t there, which is what led me to eventually question other options.

I’m not very religious yet, having the mindset that all things are possible, I have looked into the idea, simply because I thought myself hypocritical in what I could believe. How can I say that I believe in the existence of ghosts as well as “demons” and that they may be exorcised out of our world or, at least, suppressed by the words of a religious figure and yet not believe in religion? I could fathom a priest removing ghosts from a house or person by reading scripture from the bible, but I couldn’t grasp the religious aspect behind it. I felt completely lost and torn on what to believe and it even had me questioning my own spirituality. However, researching further, I find that nearly every religion has their own form of “exorcism”. Catholicism simply has the most widely known practice of this act. That seemed to bring me right back to my original thought pattern. If every religion has a system of disbanding lost souls, each working just as well as the other, then how can any one religion be considered correct and that all should have faith in? It was at this point that I began to wonder if it had anything to do at all with the religious symbolism itself and turned to the belief in the mind that religion reinforced. The people with faith in their religion or even those who believe there must be no other answer, will look to a priest or other figure with the same devoted faith and belief in the representation and abilities he may hold to rid these other worldly spirits. Faith just might be a reason some experience as well as rid our environment of what we do not understand. Faith being unquestioned belief brought on by lack of understanding and eventually leading to the last plausible option that religion would claim to hold the answer too. The religious aspect could simply be reinforcement in our minds, strong enough to push us to know that the spirit was pushed out by the actions of that holy symbolic figure.

There are families all over that live in supposed haunted houses, in which case, certain members never have a single paranormal experience and hold no belief, while the rest of the family is tormented by poltergeist activity. Furthermore, it would seem that the longer it continues and the more fear inflicted, the activity would seem to increase. Considering this, my previous statements, and much more knowledge of the subject, the most plausible answer would seem to lie within quantum physics. A science that says all are connected, reality is more within our own minds than the outside world, and that personal belief is key to all. An example of this would be a story of the new world and the aliens that landed in it. It is said that when settlers arrived in the Americas in their massive ships left off shore, there were Indians who lived along the coast line. These Indians noticed a disturbance in the ocean. Not the ships themselves, but the wakes and water displacement caused by them. Like an invisible force to them, they were unable to see these ships because never had the Indians seen or idealized anything like what they should be seeing. A shaman of the tribe spent days staring into the ocean trying to understand what could be causing the odd water depressions until finally the ships began to appear too him. Once the shaman could see them, he brought his tribe to explain his findings and open their eyes. Because of the tribes devoted faith in their shaman and the words he spoke, after describing what he saw, the others were then able to see. Their minds could comprehend. We do not see with our eyes, we see with our mind. Our eyes may collect the information, but it’s the mind that interprets it. If something is so far beyond what our mind can comprehend, then how can it “see” that which it has no way to understand? It would seem to be the same case with paranormal. Take someone who whole heartedly believes ghosts are non-existent to any haunted location and my bet is they would never have a single experience. This would seem to make sense as to why some never have an experience in their own home with others being constant subject to fear. It is said spirits sometimes feed off of fear, but is this the case, or could it be that with growing fear comes growing belief, in turn a further opening of the mind to comprehend the spiritual activity around you? That may explain why some see and acknowledge the existence while others cast the idea aside as immature, childish, imagination. This could even explain why children seem to be the most susceptible to ghostly interactions. Society has yet to completely convince them what they should believe. Children are told consistently by parental figures that ghost do not exist leading to that eventual mindset or at least questioning it enough to no longer being able to fully grasp what may be. Yet that would still leave the question, what are ghosts? Quantum mechanics may support a possible answer to that, as well.

The universe, quantum physics, and the manifestation of spirits all have the same rule of what they and all else are made of, energy. If being a “Scientist“ could be considered a religion, energy would be God. It must exist for all to exist. Spirits are said to be made purely up of and feed off of energy in order to interact and appear before us, striking instant fear because of the lack of understanding. We, as well as else, give off our own energy. At our highest state of emotions, especially in rare moments of extreme adrenaline rushing, life threatening fear or the heart tearing sadness, only felt by love, and the most unfortunate remedy to that pain. In those moments that most of us will never feel, the body is an energy producing power house. Every cell in your body is active, fighting to keep yourself alive or driving you to take it to end the emotional desolation. Could those extreme moments cause a personal energy, so strong, that it collects enough to remain grasped together rather than disperse into the universe? Think about it. When enough energy gathers in the universe, stars are born, nebulas create, and light is produced. I believe this may be no different than what we already see happening all around us. The exception being consciousness and when it absorbs and gravitates inward enough outer energy, forming in the shape it remembers and sometimes even producing light before burning off the excess and seemingly vanishing. We see the effects of collected energy every day each showing their own, vastly varying characteristics. Light, stars, nebulas, fire, supernovas, and the list could go on and on, these are all forms of energy with similar traits yet much different results of what that energy produces.

I whole heartedly believe you must sometimes breakdown some of the biggest questions to answer some of our mediocre ponderings. The universe and energy created everything we know, us included. It would seem to make sense that the rules characteristics of energy making up completely incomprehensibly sized objects in our heavens would still apply to our own. The end of anything we know releases its contained energy to disperse amongst our dimension unless enough is left behind to pull together and form into something new. This source is seemingly sucked from the universe, to power bodily masses we know as life. However, with the evolution of life, could energy have evolved as well, creating a consciousness held by that individual mass? That is an entirely different questionable mystery held secret only to the universe.
