Legend of “Lechuza” Possibly Seen In Carrizo Springs

The legend of the “Lechuza” has been told in this area for years.

Now, a recent picture has sparked a discussion about whether the picture is real.

The picture believed to have been taken in Carrizo Springs shows two men holding a white owl with a very large wing span.
Our Lauren Kendrick has more in our top story.

The picture has definitely got people interested whether or not they believe in the myth.

We spoke to one of the owners of Petland who tells us this picture has her baffled when it comes to classifying the type of owl.

“I think people would like to believe it’s real just like they’d like to believe big foot’s real and the loch ness monster and all the other creatures.”

Owner of Petland Laredo, Laura Hatton, gives us her take on the picture that’s been circulating social networking sites for the past few days.

The picture was taken in Carrizo Springs.

MORE HERE And see below for’ intersting folklore’ about Lechuza.

Lechuza

Lechuza are either shape-shifting witches or spirits in Hispanic folklore. Tales of Lechuza are quite popular in Mexico and Texas.

Appearance: A human-sized bird with a woman’s face

Lore: Lechuza are women who have sold their souls to the devil in exchange for magical powers. At night, they transform into monsters with a bird’s body and a woman’s face, similar to depictions of harpies in Greek mythology. They then fly through the night in search of prey.

When a Lechuza finds her target she will perch in a location where she can’t easily be seen and then will make either strange whistles or the sound of an infant crying. Anyone who attempts to determine where the sound is coming from is at risk of becoming Lechuza’s dinner. Lechuza will then swoop down and carry off the confused and horrified individual.

In some versions of the story, the Lechuza is the spirit of a witch who was murdered by locals. Her spirit returns in the form of the bird-monster to get revenge. In other tales, the Lechuza is the vengeful spirit of a woman who has returned from the grave to torment the living and to seek revenge.

In modern times, most reported run-ins with the witch-bird involve her swooping down at cars driving deserted roads at night.

Powers: As a witch, Lechuza possesses supernatural powers. One of the powers of the Lechuza is to summon storms. Sightings of Lechuza are believed to coincide with thunderstorms. Lechuza possess the power to shape-shift into bird-monsters at night. Lechuza also possess the ability to disguise their voices to appear as if it is the cries of an infant in order to draw it’s human prey closer. Finally, it is believed that hearing the cry of the Lechuza is an omen that someone in the household will die, a trait more commonly found in tales of the banshee. Lechuza are immune to weapons and bullets and possibly are immortal.

Defense Against Lechuza: Lechuza fear salt. Upon hearing the call of a Lechuza one should immediately began cussing her out. Doing so will drive her away. Don’t go outside to investigate hearing a strange whistle sound or the sound of a baby crying.

Lechuza As Owls: Today many mistake owls for the Lechuza and some even suggest that owls are the origin of the Lechuza myths.http://thedemoniacal.blogspot.com/2010/06/lechuza.html

The entire world is now the Barrio, where nothing can happen
without lots of magical embellishment by the locals.

Speaking of magick, I think many people are struggling with
the repressed magical mind. I see people on the internet
post about ‘magical thinking’ with a degrading tone.
Ostensibly, I think these people are the very same
that view the world as a magical place, albiet in
perhaps a largely negative fashion. All of existence
      is magic.

What an excellent piece of investigative reporting…NOT. No wonder our society is so dumbed down.

Apparently the town is run amok with superstitious Mexicans and the last remaining authority figure on scientific opinion is the lady at Petland. Why was the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department not contacted to investigate the shooters. Is it not a crime to shoot owls in Texas?.Last one to leave Texas take the flag.

Well, I live in Quebec Canada and I have seen great white snowy owls that were close to the size of the owl in this picture. So I can’t tell you for sure if it is real but I do know and have seen with my own eyes snowy owls with wing spans as large as 7 feet approx. and maybe more. The first time I seen one was at the airport north of Montreal Quebec called Mirabel airport. Or, as some of us call it, Misrabel…lol. Any way, the bird was atop a tall lamp post and I went outside to get a closer look at the owl and it stayed there for a few minutes and it was looking at me as I was looking at it. Suddenly the owl decided to leave and it swooped down towards me, which scared the heck out of me cus I thought it was going to attack me. The feet on the owl were enormous and the talons were very long. It left and i didn’t see it again for a few days and it was sitting on another lamp post but wouldn’t let me get as close as the first time I saw it. I have seen more in other areas of Quebec that were as large or a bit smaller.
So, it is possible that the owl in the pic is real. As for the folklore that goes along with it, well that’s a whole other story. Can’t help ya there.

I saw something at Oklahoma in 1993 that looked that a gray prehistoric bird with a ten foot wing span. I was in a car with mice dropping on it as the bird flew right over the car. I thing the mice came from the bird. This is the first time I have told anyone. Now I think it is possible for things to be in the sky that experts don’t know.

Phew !! lucky that we had the owner of Petland on call to tell us all about it, as she seems to be an expert on owls………………………………no wonder the US has an entire population of retards :(

Sadly, the dog-shampooer at petco could not be found to comment on this stupid ass article.

As usual another blurry paranormal photo. Just like 95% of UFO photos. If they don’t publish anymore photos that are clearer than this or let a news team film it and have a scientist do a DNA analysis on it then it’s a fake. Just like the Bigfoot carcas a few months back.

    • madrex

Looks like it could be another large type of bird of prey like eagle or hawk with head hanging down to the right in fuzzy photo. Could it be a South American species like harpy eagle.

    • madrex

Found better picture on another site, either the largest barn owl ever or photoshopped I would say.

It’s BigBird’s brother, LittleBird. Can’t you see the resemblance? They’re both fuzzy and feathered. But it’s like Obama’s BC—”Photoshopped”.

    • Anonymous

I can tell you that the picture would be real, as not much photo-shopping goes on down there. The nice people of the area have no motivation to post a fake picture. In fact, it is a downright lie to insinuate that anyone would photoshop a picture posted on damned FB. Who is this little punk…must’ve had an empty 3 minutes and pulled her non-story up.

With the unusual weather patterns, HAARP, magnetic pole shifting, and looming pole shift around September 20th, it would not be odd to see a large owl whose natural habitat is Mexico or Central America.

Our poor planet and animals have taken a huge hit.

There is in fact a species of Owl removed from books. It was written of by the Etruscans, the Sumerians, and is still represented in Egyptian glyphs.

      Lechuza:
Inanna is Queen of the Moloch, the owl species of the Bird Tribes of Nibiru who has a pathological hatred for man. Her other names were Isis, Selene, Hecate, Lilith…depending on what language you are using. She has a prolific number of Covens (who fed them). And it is true “Lilith eats children”, man is a food source for them. The species is around 5 foot tall, and its main food source is human children. Native Indian legends also match this, worldwide. It was known as a predator species to all Mankind and the owl hieroglyphs are worldwide for that reason.

It is the Branch of SET the “Laviathan Class Serpent of the Abyss” who invaded and Earth ‘fell’ in Battle to this Branch. They set themselves up as ‘kings’ and ‘pharaohs’ (king of kings)over mankind. This is why the legend of Isis and Osiris has her ‘turning into an Owl and flying away’ from the body of Osiris. Her Fraternal twin/husband is Enlil. The Eagle Tribe. These are the Branch of SET whose sumerian name is An (greek Cronus) – their father. In England the Moloch are called the “Owlmen of Cornwall”, also called “Death Raptors”. In the forth kind the sentient primary race was the ‘sumerian’ speaking ‘owl’ and why the owls image was used as memory patches. Those are “Lilith’s” people and their native language is Sumerian, which is why it isn’t a dead language to them. The other branch, the El(oheim)speak Latin.

So there are more than one species of owl that are historically known, were written of, and are still alive.

YellowRose, You hit the nail on the head…interesting to note Bohemian Grove attendees play sacrifice to a giant owl…

    • mmkkpro

I also saw one in north carolina, its wing span was wider than the 1956 chevy we were in,my friend and i both saw it,light gray and huge wing span and the wing width was impressive also

    • lindarosemary

Track down the guys in the photo, and ask them. There are owls with very large wing spans, such as the great grey owl that has an average wings span of 4-5 feet; or the Eurasian Eagle owl which can have a wing span of 6 feet or longer.
