GlaxoSmithKline Fined in Biggest Healthcare Fraud Case in U.S. History

Pharma heavyweight GlaxoSmithKline is paying a $3 billion fine in the largest healthcare fraud case in U.S. history. The company was accused of promoting various drugs for uses other than what they had been approved for and of having failed to give the Food and Drug Administration safety information on the diabetes drug Avandia.
While $3 billion is a mind-boggling sum for the average person to comprehend, is it just the cost of doing business for the giant pharmaceutical company? Should we believe the company’s claims that it has cleaned up its act?

The Project On Government Oversight is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that champions good government reforms.
