Amos Gilead, head of the Defense Ministry Political and Security Division, went first with a long radio interview on Tuesday, July 24, followed by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz – both administering their own brands of tranquilizer. Gilead said that the Assad regime was in full control of Syria’s unconventional weapons and so, while Israel’s intelligence bodies must be extra alert and prepare for all eventualities in Syria, there is no need to panic.
Foreign mercenaries campaign for Aleppo enters fourth day ~ link ~ The Syrian army has had to evacuate residents from several areas in the commercial hub of Aleppo as sporadic gunfire intensified, reports RT’s Oksana Boyko. Other sources say attack helicopters were sent to deal with the rebels in the northern city. Aleppo, the largest city in Syria, had long remained immune to the 17-month uprising against President Bashar Assad. This held true until four days ago when rebels launched a “liberate Aleppo” offensive in the city of three million.
“Sources in Aleppo report clashes in four suburbs. Residents took refuge at several university campuses,” reports RT’s correspondent in Syria, Oksana Boyko, in her Twitter microblog. Aleppo residents told Boyko that sustained gunfire had been heard for the whole day. People are staying indoors while the army helps with the evacuation from the most dangerous sites.

President Bashar al-Assad’s regime has friends in the region poised “to strike out” in the event of an intervention into Syria, says a commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The warning was particularly sent to “hated” Arab countries.
“None of Syria’s friends or the great front of resistance has yet entered the scene, and in the event that this happens, decisive blows will be struck at the enemy, especially the hated Arab rulers,” Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, a spokesman of the country’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Fars news agency.
No country in particular was mentioned. Iran remains a key ally of official Damascus, while leaders of such Gulf countries as Saudi Arabia, Jordan or Qatar openly support Syrian rebels.
The hawkish rhetoric heard from Iran comes on top of the exchange over Syria’s chemical and biological arsenal, which the Arab country pledged Monday not to use against its own population, but only to combat “foreign aggressors.”
Syria uses fighter-bombers to attack mercenaries in Aleppo battle ~ link ~ The conflict has intensified in Syria with the government reportedly unleashing fighter jets and helicopter gunships to “drop bombs” in a bid to wrestle back control of neighbourhoods from rebels.
It is claimed the jets have targeted the northern city of Aleppo as opposition fighters attempt to seize control of Syria’s second city and commercial hub amid circling warplanes.
Senior Iranian Commander: Syrian soil to be purged of enemy soon ~ link ~ A senior Iranian commander has warned against foreign schemes against Damascus, saying the foreign-sponsored antagonistic forces will soon be obliterated in Syria.
“The Syrian soil will soon be purged of the taint of the enemy and then it is time for the Resistance to take revenge on every enemy of Syria,” said Deputy Chairman of Iran’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri on Tuesday.
Jazayeri reaffirmed the Syrian nation’s resolve to retaliate against their enemies, adding, “The people of Syria are extremely furious at the evil governments of the US, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other allies of the terrorists.”
He pointed out that a large front comprising the US and its allies as well as the ‘global Zionism’ have launched an all-out war against the Syrian government and nation. Jazayeri went on to say that due to the strong presence of the Syrian people, government and armed forces, the plotters have suffered a historical and crushing defeat. “Now the enemy cannot do anything except resorting to terrorist attacks, bombing and media propaganda,” top Iranian commander added. “The enemy is not capable of changing the government in Syria and the people of the country and Syria’s friends will never allow it to happen.”

Naher Aisheh, a suburb of the capital, was the latest area to be fully cleared of the foreign-backed armed gangs on Tuesday. Inside the capital, most neighborhoods are now calm.
To the north, security forces were battling militants and chasing them across the city of Aleppo, which has been the scene of fierce clashes over the past five days.
The army has been combing through the city in search of armed rebels, while many others have reportedly surrendered.
Meanwhile, security forces have foiled repeated attempts by armed groups to infiltrate into the Syrian territory from neighboring Lebanon and Jordan.
