Louisiana -Texas Brine Company had shut down the drilling site in anticipation of Hurricane Isaac. In the aftermath of Isaac, many power lines were knocked down along with fallen trees surrounding the Bayou Corne area .Both local residents and state agencies feared more damage may be occurring at the sinkhole location during the high winds and down pouring of rain. The National Hurricane Center said Isaac was expected to have top winds of around 95 mph. To full amazement in a check of the large sinkhole it had showed “no significant changes” in the size of the slurry hole.“It didn’t grow any,” said John Boudreaux, director of the Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.DNR scientists believe a plugged and abandoned Texas Brine Co. LLC of Houston salt cavern failed, released its brine contents and caused the nearby sinkhole, found on Aug. 3.

  Texas Brine Company stated that It will take two or three days to get the drilling going again. It’s still some weeks before the drill reaches the salt cavern.The Assumption OHSEP command post has been moved back to Bayou Corne. Other state agencies have advised that they will be moving back as well. Command post operations will resume on Tuesday. We have also been advised that drilling may start as early as this afternoon.
