Louisiana - On September 14, 2012 we posted a report about drilling being performed by the sonic rig, on Dugas & LeBlanc property on the south side of LA-70,which had been halted due to the prescence of gas that was encountered at 90 feet. Parish officials and state agencies were currently at the site and had no additional details at that time .Well today ,DNR has ordered all companies with active industry on the salt dome to investigate for the presence of natural gas and ordered to vent any gas found. Each company was required to submit their plans regarding this order to DNR. Parish officials and state agencies will review and discuss these plans tomorrow at the industry meeting. The parish should also be receiveing engineered plans from DNR for the vent wells that will be placed within the community some time this week.

CALL TO ACTION TO LOUISIANA OFFICIALS FOR UPDATES ON EMERGENCY SINKHOLE

BAYOU CORNE RESIDENTS CALL TOWN HALL PUBLIC MEETING

BAYOU CORNE, La. – Bayou Corne residents in Assumption Parish will hold an emergency Town Hall meeting ((Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m.)) at the St Joseph the Worker Church Hall on the emergency situation status regarding the large sinkhole and unexplained natural gas venting. The sinkhole has appeared in the northern Assumption Parish community of Bayou Corne and nearby swamps. As of last report, it measured 422-foot-deep and has a diameter of approximately 372-feet as reported by The Advocate newspaper. More than 150 households in the nearby community have been impacted, many residents have evacuated under a mandatory evacuation order, while many residents still remain.

The residents have called the meeting out of an abundance of concern and caution for the lack of real-time information from the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP), Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Texas Brine Co., the company in charge of the suspect cavern inside the Napoleonville Salt Dome. Many who have evacuated as well as those that have chosen to stay desire weekly community meeting status reports from state emergency and environmental officials on the sinkhole. The residents have assembled their own independent scientific team and task force to study the findings from both DEQ and Texas Brine Co. since scientific analysis has not been forthcoming.
