Austrian Felix Baumgartner has broken the record for the highest ever skydive by jumping out of a balloon 128,000ft (24 miles, 39km) above New Mexico.
The 43-year-old was hoping also to break the sound barrier during his descent – although that mark awaits confirmation.
Turkish Navy put on High Alert ~ link ~ Turkey has put its naval taskforce in the Mediterranean on high alert and sent missile-carrying frigates and motor boats to Aksaz, Iskenderun, Mersin, Antalya and other naval bases, the Hurriyet newspaper reports. Earlier, a higher state of alert was announced in the Air Force.
The move came amid a fresh escalation of tension in the Turkish-Syrian relations. A few days ago, Turkey scrambled its jet fighters to force a Damascus-bound Syrian passenger plane to land in Ankara. It cited intelligence reports that the plane might be carrying suspicious cargo. But no cargo prohibited by international conventions was found aboard.
Syria retaliated for the incident by shutting its airspace for Turkish planes.

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey is expected to visit Israel at the end of the upcoming joint missile defense exercise in late October, Israeli sources revealed on Sunday.
“Austere Challenge 12″ is set to be the largest-ever exercise of its kind, involving some 1,500 soldiers from the Israeli and American armies. The exercise is expected to go on for approximately two weeks, and while Dempsey’s visit has not yet beenofficially confirmed, Israeli sources were quoted by Maariv as saying that they expected him to be in Israel at the end of the exercise.

Those who are not religious would prefer to say that our government is run by psychopaths and our government is therefore a psychopathocracy.
We know that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar dance to Daijal’s tune because they do not heed the words of the Prophet who said that at the end of these current period in history that Damascus would conquer Constantinople which is modern Istanbul. Nor do they pay any attention laws against killing fellow Muslims. I have heard repeatedly from certain Muslim scholars that the Saudi royal family was originally Jewish followers of Sabbatai Zevi, the Jewish Satanist who converted to Islam and founded his own Islamic sect, the Donmeh. The Donmeh to this day have a strong influence inside Turkey. Most modern Israeli Zionists are followers of Sabbatai Zevi which explains in part the relation of Israel to Turkey….

America Close to War with Syria by Congressman Dennis Kucinich ~ link ~ Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich believes the deployment of American troops in Jordan — which was announced Wednesday — brings the United States “immeasurably” closer to being dragged into the civil war in Syria.
“I can see in a moment how it happens: we’re a few dozen miles from the Syrian border and all of a sudden we are within the reach of physical danger. All it takes is a single incident,” Kucinich said in a phone interview with U.S. News.
The Ohio congressman pointed to the fact that this troop deployment, which is described by the Jordanian government as “routine” (under a bilateral US-Jordan military cooperation agreement) was ordered by the president and commander-in-chief “without notifying Congress.”

Saudi National Guard officer killed in Syria ~ link ~ The Saudi officer, Salem al-Harbi, was killed during fierce clashes between the army and the terrorists in the suburbs of Idlib, the Iran-based al-Alam news network reported.
Al-Harbi was killed along with five Saudi and Turk nationals in suburban Idlib.
The army also killed 13 armed rebels in Deir al-Zour province.
In a relevant development, the Syrian army killed over 400 terrorists during military operations in the different districts of Aleppo and Homs on Saturday.
The army units conducted extensive operations in Jouret Shiyah region of Homs on Saturday which resulted in the death of tens of terrorists.
Scores of terrorist commanders were also among those killed in both Aleppo and Homs on Saturday. The army killed 25 armed rebels only in Bab al-Hood district of Homs.

Although the surge of “insider attacks” on U.S.-NATO forces has dominated coverage of the war in Afghanistan in 2012, an even more important story has been quietly unfolding: the U.S. loss of the pivotal war of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to the Taliban.
Some news outlets have published stories this year suggesting that the U.S. military was making “progress” against the Taliban IED war, but those stories failed to provide the broader context for seasonal trends or had a narrow focus on U.S. fatalities. The bigger reality is that the U.S. troop surge could not reverse the very steep increase in IED attacks and attendant casualties that the Taliban began in 2009 and which continued through 2011.
EU austerity drives repression in Greece ~ link ~ In her lightning visit to Athens on Tuesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made clear that the European Union (EU) intends to intensify its attacks on the social rights and conditions of working people throughout Europe.
Shielded by 7,000 riot police, Merkel raced through streets that had been cleared of people to attend a meeting with Greek Premier Antonis Samaras. Her purpose was to ensure that Samaras not back down in the implementation of the savage austerity measures dictated by the EU. Merkel then met with selected entrepreneurs who hope to make a killing based on the starvation wages being imposed on Greek workers.
On the same day, an all-party coalition of the ruling Socialist Party, the right-wing Union for a Popular Majority, and the centre-right Democratic Movement voted in the French National Assembly for the fiscal pact Merkel had negotiated with former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Although Sarkozy’s successor, François Hollande, won last May’s election in large part by pledging to renegotiate the fiscal pact, it was passed without so much as a comma changed. It commits France to reducing its budget deficit by radical social cuts.

Portugal erupts in protests ~ link ~ People in Lisbon and other Portuguese cities have turned out for mass protests against the government’s austerity plans, described by the Socialists as ‘an economic A-bomb’.
Portugal is suffering its worst economic downturn in 40 years. It cannot look forward to a European bailout unless it somehow plugs its public deficit of 2bln euros a year.
