Survey Finds Large Number of Australians Welcome Cashless Society and Retinal Scans for Banking

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

ANZ, Australia’s fourth largest bank and the largest bank in New Zealand, has hinted at plans to incorporate retinal scanning technology in the near future for customer access and banking transactions.

According to the Fraser Coast Chronicle, a Newspoll survey commissioned by ANZ last week showed that a “majority of people would be comfortable using retina or fingerprint scanning technology at ATMs instead of PIN numbers.”

Seventy-nine per cent of Australians said they would be comfortable with fingerprint technology one day replacing their banking PIN and more than one third of Australians would prefer to live in a cashless world,” an ANZ press release states.

If results from the commissioned study are to be trusted, the number of Australian individuals willing to give up their privacy and be put into large biometric databases is staggering.

Here are some of the study’s disturbing findings:

- 88 per cent of people aged 18 – 34 prefer to use digital technology over a bank branch for day-to-day transactions but their Mums and Dads weren’t far behind at 75 per cent;
- 38 per cent of Australians would prefer to live in a world where they didn’t need to carry cash;
- 40 per cent of people even accepted the idea of one day outsourcing their finances to a digital personal assistant – an intelligent computer program which makes financial decisions and moves money between accounts on your behalf;
- 49 per cent of 18 -34 year olds like the idea of a digital personal assistant but with only 30 per cent of Baby Boomers indicating they would be likely to use the technology;
- 67 per cent of Australians would be comfortable using a machine that scans your eye to verify identification in place of a pin; and
- 73 per cent of people find it inconvenient when small businesses don’t accept cards and only cash, with 82 per cent of 18-34 year olds finding cash only policies the most frustrating.

“Before long we may use our fingerprints or even retina scans to make payments. Australians have shown they are comfortable with biometric identification, because it combines convenience with security,” Futurist Ross Dawson remarked concerning the study’s results.

The prospect of biometric banking goes further than just being able to access services. Dawson says that soon automated assistants like Apple iPhone’s Siri may be helping “us with banking transactions such as moving funds or making payments, and even potentially choosing investments on our behalf.”

Already down the pike for ANZ is a MobileWallet, similar to Google’s Wallet, that would allow Near Field Communication, or close-proximity transmissions, of ANZ terminals and SMARTphones.

As we have covered in the past, the public’s acceptance of a cashless grid is the foundation globalists need in place to one day construct a closely-controlled and monitored one-world currency.

Recently, tremendous strides have been made to stamp out paper money by criminalizing its use and downplaying its effectiveness all in the name of advancing the prosperity of humankind.

Last month, we documented the illegal detainment of a Texas woman at a San Antonio Wal-Mart where two $100 bills she used for payment were ripped up in front of her by two different employees, who subsequently accused her of counterfeiting. Police later arrived and verified that the bills were in fact real.

      That’d be right! Australians are just as ignorant of the real issues as most Americans! We are already in the top 3 nations for highest taxes & longest working hours + it just came out that the Aus government spies on us citizens more than any other government in the world! We also have some of the most expensive living in the world, particularly our supermarkets. 90% of what we pay at the grocery store is pure profits for the corporations.. Are people really that dumb that they want an electronic prison? No cash?! No thanks!

      I’m not sure who they are surveying, as my friends and i, ANZ customers were never surveyed.

      They surveyed 1211 Australians. that’s hardly a great survey. I don’t believe represents the voice of Australians.

      By the way , News poll did the Survey – News poll was established in partnership with News Limited – Rupert Murdoch owns news Limited -
