Calle 13 Joins with Unicef in Fight Against Violence in La Bala ( The Bullet) VIDEO
Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 presented its latest video in which, with the collaboration of Unicef, the two artists denounce the harm that arms and violence do to the world with their song “La Bala” (The Bullet).
“This is a very important subject, besides being one of my favorites, because in many countries we are in a state of emergency in terms of unchecked violence,” lead singer Rene Perez, a.k.a. “Residente,” told a press conference here.
The “La Bala” video covers places in Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States to talk about the impact violence can have on someone.
“I wanted to give the bullet its own personality, and giving it personality we make people understand the harm it does,” Residente said.
This is the second time that Calle 13 – whose other half is Perez’s stepbrother Eduardo Cabra, a.k.a. “Visitante” – has collaborated with Unicef, after doing so a year ago in a campaign against human trafficking.
Asked if he feels afraid for having exposed himself in the fight against violence, Residente said he is more afraid of governments than of drug cartels.
“I hope that if something happens to me, someone else will step up to do the work. That won’t stop the message from being sent out,” said the artist, convinced that music can do a lot to make a change.
