CCW Holder Confronted Clackamas Mall Shooter
PORTLAND — Nick Meli is emotionally drained. The 22-year-old was at Clackamas Town Center with a friend and her baby when a masked man opened fire.
“I heard three shots and turned and looked at Casey and said, ‘are you serious?,’” he said.
The friend and baby hit the floor. Meli, who has a concealed carry permit, positioned himself behind a pillar.
“He was working on his rifle,” said Meli. “He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side.”
The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
“As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them,” he said.
Meli took cover inside a nearby store. He never pulled the trigger. He stands by that decision.
“I’m not beating myself up cause I didn’t shoot him,” said Meli. “I know after he saw me, I think the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself.”

Mandate the requirement that a citizen of the United States and legal resident of that county, be stationed within the school with a holstered firearm weapon that is loaded and ready for use to protect the children and persons working there as teachers and or administrators. The person(s) there to protect others will be vetted and fully trained by the local police or sheriffs department and will be there in a non-paid capacity as a volunteer for the hours the school is normally occupied by children. Any employee, teacher, or administrator may occupy this position also. The person will have a current conceal carry permit and will show current (quarterly) training at the firing range.

I have concealed weapons permit and am trained to protect and serve. Things would have been diffrent if I or someone with similar training was at any of the the recent school shooting locations dressed in plainclothes with basic walkie communications to classroom teachers. If the Federal government was more concerned about truly “protecting school children” they would set up a secured entrance into schools where an individual with a concealed weapons license and bonded to protect the students and teachers could easily monitor anyone coming into the school with a weapon. Teachers would have a panic button and radio to communicate directly with a plainclothes individual. In most cases the dangerous perpetrators would never make it into the school to begin with or would be stopped before they knew what hit them. but since our “current administration” is more concerned about disarming law abiding citizens and scaring the public with a barrage of ongoing liberal news media programs to create fear and paranoia then implementing an inexpensive program like this because it would empower the public and not the Federal government/United Nations NAZI agenda.
