Their calendar is so accurate that it can predict the exact date of a solar eclipse thousands of years in the future. This made their calendar even more precise than our current calendar. The Mayan calender is popular among end timers because they think that the “end date” of the Mayan calender translates into the end of the world.

The mayan calender basically says that the old ways are ending and new ones are coming in, I don’t believe that the world will end or our race for that matter. We are too precious to simply disappear – although we know that the mayan’s disappeared leaving only their legacy. Certainly makes one think how they managed to get so precise with their predictions, thousands of years ago the world must have been a completely different place, a higher Oxygen content than today must have helped their minds.

Let me educate you a little bit Johnny…El Salvador Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico are FULL of Mayan’s who were scattered by the Spanish. They did not vaporize, leave via alien space craft or go to Europe. Get your facts straight, learn to spell, stay on the meds and GET A FRIGGIN JOB!!!

Go back to school… what your article shows is a picrture of the Aztec calendar, not the Mayan

Their calendar doesn’t really end on that date any more than ours ended on December 31, 1999. It’s more like the point when an odometer flips from all nines to all zeros. But the ancient Maya did expect world-changing events to begin at this time. This date is the end of the Mayan Long Count — the largest (5125 year) cycle within their calendar. Their calendar will start over with a new Long Count cycle just like we start a new year in January. But the Maya did believe this point in time would mark the end of the world as we know it and the transition to a new world. They viewed the transitional years from 2012-2019 as the first years of the new system of things in the next world, while the Bible describes these transitional years as the last years of the world we know now. After completing my research, I must conclude that December 21, 2012 is the start of the seven year tribulation, with Judgment Day at the end of 2019. It might sound crazy before major events happen, but I think the most likely scenario to unfold in late 2012 that would clearly match prophecy perfectly would be for a short but major war between Israel and her Islamic enemies followed by a cease fire and a seven year peace treaty starting approximately 12/21/12
Bottom line: the Maya knew something will happen, and both the Maya and the Bible use astronomical clues to give us specific timing

I love it when people say the end of a calendar is the end of the Earth. Maybe the Earth is destroyed every year at 31 Dec, and I just haven’t realized it yet.
