Guns get lost. They are stolen. And they are misplaced. How can gun control eliminate that? Can gun control eliminate the idiocy, theft and misplacing of the millions of guns that are already in the hands of law abiding citizens, thugs,pawnshops and, yes: national guard armories?
Theives stole a mllion dollars worth of antique guns from a National Guard Armory in Minnesota.
Dozens of antique guns have been stolen from the Minnesota National Guard armory in Mankato, the second theft of historic weapons in just over a week.Authorities say someone entered the building by breaking a hole in door with a window, then reaching in to open the door. The weapons were discovered missing when military personnel arrived at the armory Thursday morning.
Around 24 rifles were stolen, as were 70 pistols. MOREHERE
Puerto Rican Sen. Eder Ortiz asked Monday for an investigation into the theft of weapons from National Guard armories that has been blamed on a lack of funds to hire personnel to keep watch over its installations.
Ortiz, of the main opposition PPD, made his plea after the head of the National Guard in Puerto Rico, Maj. Gen. Antonio Vicens, acknowledged before the Senate Finance Committee that budget cuts have cause a breakdown in security and the consequent theft of armaments. MOREHERE
While the nation is experienciencing record sales of weapons, few are paying attention to the massive thefts in the military and in the nation’s National Guard armories.
Some National Guard armories are severely cash strapped. The National Guard in Puerto Rico reportedly owes millions of dollars to the local utility company for unpaid electric bills. It is so cash strapped that it owes millions in unpaid utility bills: water and power to local utility companies and can’t pay to guard the facility.
An eastern Kentucky man was arrested for thefts at a National Guard armory.. An Ohio National Gard armory was alegedly burglarized by the facility’s janitor. Every year hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military equipment, rifles, guns and other hardware are stolen from military installations around the world and make their way into the international weapons black market and to domestic gangs and criminals in the US.
That said, do Americans really believe that gun control laws will stop a flood of already illegal, stolen weapons from the streets?
“When there is a burglary from a military installation we are always worried about the safety of the public at large,” said Lt. Steven Stockdale of the Warren County Sheriffs Office. “We still have a large amount of items unaccounted for.”

In New York, a group of 13 people, including a retired Israeli general, is facing trial in US District Court on charges that it conspired to ship $2 billion in US aircraft, weapons, spare parts, and munitions to Iran via Israel.
Pre-trial arguments are scheduled to begin Monday, with defense attorneys expected to argue that their clients were under the impression that the Iranian arms deal had been sanctioned by the US and Israel.
Officials and arms dealers say that most of the war materiel that ultimately turns up on the international black market is initially purchased through legitimate channels dealing in outdated or surplus munitions and equipment. Though it is impossible to determine how much of the black market comprises stolen US munitions, a recent General Accounting Office (GAO) report offers some clues. READMORE
While the policians in Washington are dithering over gun control, and as the gun industry’s multi-million dollar lobbying campaign buys our leaders, we are missing the point. Gun “control” in the form of more laws will do nothing to stem the tide of assault rifles if thieves can steal them from undersecured armories and military shipments.
