“He was a counter-cultural revolutionary and the government takes that shit really seriously historically…he was dangerous to the government…These pacifist revolutionaries are historically killed by the government and anybody who thinks that Mark Chapman was just some crazy guy who killed my dad for his personal interests is insane, I think, or very naïve, or hasn’t thought about it clearly.  It was in the best interests of the United States to have my dad killed, definitely.  And, you know, that worked against them, to be honest, because once he died his powers grew.  So, I mean, f**k them.  They didn’t get what they wanted.”

Lennon and Yoko moved to the Dakota apartment building in New York City, in August of 1971 and four months later released “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).”  That same month, White Panther leader and counter-culture spokesman John Sinclair was sitting in a New York jail, having been busted for possession of marijuana and subsequently framed as a drug dealer.  Sinclair had served 2 years of his 10-year sentence when John Lennon agreed to headline a benefit concert for peace in his name.  Within three days of the concert, John Sinclair walked free, an event noticed by then-FBI Director J Edgar Hoover, as well as the CIA.  From that day on Lennon was a marked man.  Click on the music banner below to learn more about John Sinclair and the White Panthers:
