I sent you grace and you give me a whisper, a bowed head.
I give you peace in one place and you take away my foundation in another.
I built you a palace and you turned it into a tombstone.
I sent you my son and you left him alone and dying.
I gave you my law and my word, and you wrote me an i.o.u
Therefore:
You shall no longer slumber at the pillars of Zion, or reap the truth from
my light,
Nor build the mighty fortress that cannot be destroyed, and stand alone
in my sight.
The echoes of freedom have long since dimmed,
On one lone statue in remembrance of Him…
An ICON, alone in his beloved temple,
Betrayed in both love and ceremony simple.
How softly he asked for a lowly tithe,
As you shouted your needs to keep faith alive.
How gently he touched the souls on your path,
And yet you rejoice in pride’s brutal wrath.
As sanity drifts and knowledge declines,
You blame him for the rotten fruit on thy vines,
As both prophet and preacher fail in his sight,
Demons of hell sing in delight.
Praise the lord before the sun sets,
On an image war and sullen regrets.
Praise him in the sanctuary of light,
And praise him beyond the curtain of night,
For this is the hour of tempest and toil,
The stars shall roll back and the earth shall boil,
Remember His love and the power of prayer,
And his angels which guard the gates of God’s care.

Remember the hurt and the grief of thy neighbor,
In the wakening hour in the midst of thy labor,
And take your mind from the grasp of hells minions,
Which always beg for lesser opinions.
The honor of strife our landscape fills,
From the lowest rock to the highest hills.
If Christ is not present nor peace thy dream,
Then thy house will fall and innocence scream.
Lord forgive the lost and the worn,
They are truly worthy of a blessed morn,
Beyond the haze of greed and insanity,
Into a grateful lofty humanity.”
