George Zimmerman’s Mother Rips Media, Says Arrest was ‘Solely to Placate the Masses’
The mother of George Zimmerman, the man being charged with the shooting death of Florida teen, Trayvon Martin, has written a letter to the public on the anniversary of her son’s arrest. In the letter, Gladys Zimmerman slams the media and says that Zimmerman’s arrest was “solely to placate the masses.”
The two-page letter was posted by Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr., on Twitter.
In it, Gladys Zimmerman writes that, “April 11, 2012, will be forever remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans, and as a consequence an innocent man was arrested for a crime he did not commit, solely to placate the masses.”
Later, she slams the “false narrative” of the events that lead to Martin’s death that the public heard based on “little evidence,” notes CBS News.
She targets the media as well, writing, “The media, with the help of social media made it their prerogative to judge and sentence George before and after his arrest. Even members of Congress and self-proclaimed ‘activists’ used and routinely use to this day the term ‘murderer’ when they speak of him – in effect they are re-enforcing the only acceptable judicial outcome in their eyes. Many have seen to it that he be judged by the public, the very public they were keen on misinforming.”
She then thanks her son’s supporters and then adds that the trial, which starts on June 10, will reveal the truth. “The truth will finally be revealed to many, but to some who have always seen through the narrative – the truth George always told will [not] be ‘revealed,’ but rather ‘confirmed.’”
Martin, 17, was shot on Feb. 26, 2012. Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder and has plead not guilty and claims he fired in self-defence.
