My family and I have lived in Mars Hill, NC for the past 7 years. Since
moving here, we have had a large C-130 fly over our farm twice a month (and
more recently, twice a week) so low to the ground we can see the pilot’s
eyes and the plane has to pull up to clear the mountain ridge behind our
home. This is done very late at night and with young children, has become
quite the nuisance as it shakes the house and wakes everyone up! The
locals tell us the “official story” is that they are using our mountain
range to train for Afghanistan. I am amazed at how many believe that line.
Something new has begun to take place now, however, and my family is more
than a little alarmed at this change. Beginning last Thursday, we heard a
large sound approaching our home at 1 AM. Going to the window to look, we
saw two B-2 stealth bombers fly over our home very low and pull up to clear
the mountain ridge. We have never seen these fly over before and didn’t
know what they were at first (looked like giant boomerangs). Then Monday
night, around 12:30 AM, again 2 B-2 bombers flew over, this time shining a
spotlight down on our farm as they passed over. Our farm sits on the side
of a mountain and was GPS’d during the 2010 census. It is as though they
use our home as a marker for their flight path because of how low they fly
over our roof (we are not in any close proximity to any military bases,
closest is Ft. Bragg which is 4 hours away)
The police are aware of this activity but repeat the same old “official”
line of “Afghanistan training” when asked. Wonder if they will still be
using that line when the paratroopers storm in or hellfire missiles are
being launched. Just “training” folks, nothing to see!
