Pitbull Defends Jay-Z With His Own Rap About Cuba
After Jay-Z and Beyoncé controversial trip to Cuba, Jay released “Open Letter” to address their critics. Now, Cuban-American rapper Pitbull is coming to his defense with his own song.
In Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s latest song “Open Letter” the rapper says, “Politicians never did sh*t for me / except lie to me, distort history / I turned Havana into Atlanta.”
Recently, Cuban-American Florida Sen. Marco Rubio slammed Jay-Z telling ABC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, “I think Jay-Z needs to get informed. One of his heroes is Che Guevara. Che Guevara was a racist. Che Guevara was a racist that wrote extensively about the superiority of white Europeans over people of African descent, so he should inform himself on the guy that he’s propping up.”
He went on to say, “Secondly, I think if Jay-Z was truly interested in the true state of affairs in Cuba, he would have met people that are being oppressed, including a hip-hop artist in Cuba who is right now being oppressed and persecuted and is undergoing a hunger strike because of his political lyrics…I think he missed an opportunity. But that’s Jay-Z’s issue.”
On Sunday, south Florida rapper Pitbull, whose parents are both Cuban, released his defense of Jay-Z in a new track.
Using “Open Letter” as a background track, Pitbull raps, “Politicians love to hate you / But then they run away when it’s time to debate you / Question of the night / Would they have messed with Mr. Carter if he was white?”
