The match between Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No. 5 seed, and countrywoman Nina Bratchikova was suspended due to rain with Bratchikova leading 4-2.
Germany’s Angelique Kerber, the world No. 6 and top seed in Monterrey, will make her debut at the tournament on Tuesday against American qualifier Samantha Crawford.
The 5th edition of the Monterrey Open, which has $235,000 in prize money, features its last three champions: France’s Marion Bartoli (2009), Pavlyuchenkova (2010 and 2011) and Babos (2012).
The Monterrey Open is one of Mexico’s main tennis tournaments along with the Acapulco Open, whose winners were Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Italy’s Sara Errani in March.
