Elite FBI Agents Involved in Boston Bombing Arrests Fall to their Death; FBI Kills Suspect Linked to Tamerlan Tsarnaevto After Alleged Confession

Two members of the FBI’s elite counterterrorism and hostage rescue team died Friday while practicing how to quickly drop from a helicopter to a ship using a rope (fast roping), the FBI announced Monday in a statement. The statement gave few details regarding the deaths of Special Agents Christopher Lorek and Stephen Shaw, other than to indicate the helicopter encountered unspecified difficulties and the agents fell a “significant distance.”

Last month, the team was involved in the arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

An FBI agent shot and killed an Orlando man and former mixed-martial arts fighter believed to be tied to Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect. Ibragim Todashev allegedly confessed to being involved in the murder of three people just before he was shot to death today by the FBI, sources told NBC News.

During a post-midnight interview with Ibragim Todashev at his apartment, an FBI agent shot Todashev. An interview with Todashev about his connections to Tsarnaev began peacefully, with Todashev reportedly cooperating, before taking a fatal turn for unclear reasons.

“Sources say that what began as a drug ripoff ended in a triple homicide (2011) when Tsarnaev and friend Ibragim Todashev realized their victims would later be able to identify them,” reports NBC.

According to law enforcement, after confessing to the three unsolved 2011 murders, Todashev used a knife to attack an FBI agent in an apartment complex in Orlando, Florida, prompting the agent to shoot and kill him. He reportedly “became violent as he was about to sign a written statement based on his confession.”

Coincidentally, Todashev had told his friend, prior to being interrogated, he had a feeling he would be shot by the FBI.

“He felt inside he was going to get shot,” Todashev’s friend, Khusn Taramiv, said. “I told him, ‘Everything is going to be fine, don’t worry about it.’ He said, ‘I have a really bad feeling.’”
