Idaho State Police Harrassment of Ron Paul Supporter! – Update

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Rich Hersey submitted the following post via CopBlock.org’s ‘submit‘ page.

I was driving on Interstate 84 through Boise when I suddenly heard a very loud noise coming from my car. I pulled off at the next available exit and noticed an Idaho State Police vehicle which already had somebody pulled over. Not wanting to interfere or be too close to them, I stopped on the off ramp about 1000 feet behind them. At that time I proceeded to find a few tools, pop the hood of my car, and make a quick roadside repair. By the time I had finished and was getting back in my car, sure enough, the State Troopers had turned their car around, drove the wrong direction down the off ramp, and pulled in behind me with their lights on. At first they acted like they were just concerned for my safety and asked if everything was okay. I told them it was, but then they wanted to know where I was going and what I was doing when I got there. I didn’t want to be a jerk, so I simply told them it was for business. That was when they asked for my ID and I told them no.

I requested a copy of the record of our interaction. They sent me the video from the State Trooper’s car. Here is the video of the full interaction:

The state cops in Idaho have GIGANTIC egos. The county guys/sheriffs are usually ok though.

      Stupid constitution-hating predator cops.

I thought it was a clean professional interaction. The officers were concerned about following the law. They could have done a lot of things to passively attack him, but they didn’t. He wasn’t pulled over at random. He wasn’t harassed. They didn’t try to bait him into escalating the situation only to overreact and trap him, but were in fact concerned with diffusing hostility by being polite. The more senior officer was setting a good example for the younger one if you ask me.

There are REAL bad cops out there, I don’t think these two qualify by a long shot.

State/Federal laws may be intrusive, but there are good police officers out there and they have a job, doing what is necessary, even if they don’t like it, and nothing is perfect in this world. Lumping the good with the bad is a big mistake! Demonizing them is dishonest. Painting them all with a broad brush is unfair. If we are not honest and fair ourselves, we’re no better than those that actually do intimidate, harass, and abuse their power.

no such thing as a good cop, same goes for cop-apologists.

        • PhoenixLiberty

I’m not an apologist for anyone. If you want to see a bad cop, click on the ice tea arrest video. The bias you’ve illustrated is irrational, so pardon me if I don’t really care what you post.

          irrational?

lol… get out from under your rock idiot..

its not bias… its demonstrably factual!

“The officers were concerned about following the law.”

As the story goes, it seems the cops were pretending to be concerned so that they could then invade the drivers privacy and proceed with their silly intimidation of someone minding their own business. You did hear the “concerned” cops remark about the Ron Paul supporter in the tape.

It seemed more like the male officer was training the other and, who knows, maybe he never would have asked if he were alone. Too many cops today operate under the premise that you are guilty of something until proven innocent. While we need cops on the highways for the dangerous reckless drivers, for the most part they are simple predators generating revenues for their state bosses.

It used to be that cops would actually help, and some do today. I once had a flat on a highway and was pulled off when a cop came and helped direct traffic around me, never once asking me who I was, my name, or for my DL. Nothing. He helped, was kind, and gave me his card before I left. He may have run my tags, and that’s alright, but since I was not committing a crime I would have been disconcerted if he proceeded to question me instead of helping like he did.

Having said that, I have also witnessed dirty cops in action. There are both kinds. The dirty cops gain more attention and today many of them seem to lean towards a police-state mentality.

Your points are well taken and pertinent, there are good cops, ones that actually will help you or serve and even protect you, even though they are not required to. They ARE required to protect and serve the state. These cops seen in the tape, although not being violent or uncivil, are nonetheless not helpful, they are predators in my opinion..
Whenever I see a cop saying “papers please, show us your papers” to someone that has committed no crime nor even under suspicion, I, like many Americans think of…Nazis!

        • PhoenixLiberty

I thought the situation was a bit unique, given he pulled behind them while they were engaged in a traffic stop. The officer was instructing the other that it is possibly a “drunk driver”. As for the Ron Paul reference, I think he was just trying trying to communicate the whole “situational awareness” factor. Regardless whatever bias/profiling he may have used/had against Ron Paul supporters didn’t end up with the driver being harassed, so I don’t put a lot of weight on that. I didn’t find them checking his license out of bounds given all that was going on.

I agree with basically everything you’ve said. The police have become like an additional tax agency, used more like a mafia extortion racket not to improve safety in any way, but simply to collect money. I too have had met both kinds of cop. Regardless I thought your post was very reasonable and honest. Thanks.

The point is that there was no valid reason for the jerk cops to check license. It wasn’t a stop, and these are not legal requests.

    • boney

Worst frickin State Police in the USA

    • boney

      lowest life buttplugs

    • AxisOfEvil

That’s not cool. The police shouldn’t harass retarded people.

    • Duane

These cops did nothing wrong. People need to get over themselves we have much bigger and better fish to fry than this BS….I have always lived in states were it’s perfectly legal and acceptable to ask for drivers Lic. and and Insurance, Routine traffic stops are legal they don’t need a reason to stop you and ask for ID…I have never been pulled over in my life without having to show ID plus I know it’s indeed against the law NOT to identify yourself to a police officer when asked..

    • Duane

If this guy would have been a serial killer or rapist or kidnapper they sure would have looked awfully stupid for not simply Identifying this person and i’m sure the same dults bashing them for ID’ing this clown would be complaining if the hadn’t…With some folks it don’t matter what the police do they are going to get crapped on…We have plenty of cases to look at were people’s rights have been violated but this isn’t one of them..Grow up!

It’s against Geneva conventions to punsh someone for not speaking.
