The Legend of Morrow Road: A Haunting in Algonac, Michigan

There is a road in southeast Michigan, just on the edge of the city of Algonac that has a very old story. If you dare to visit, it is quite easy to find. Travel to Algonac on M-29, a quick turn on Palms Road, then another on Shea Road will take you there. Read on before you decide to go, it is not for the faint of heart.
The story changes depending on who you ask, or how much you want to know, but there is one common denominator in all of them. There is something ghostly on Morrow Road.

Until very recently, Morrow road was just an old dirt road that the occasional car or horse may travel down. Over the past few years, it has been paved, and more families are living there. That doesn’t stop the brave adventurers from traveling down the road, trying to catch a glimpse of the Morrow Road Ghost. There are many different stories about Morrow Road, and how it came to be haunted, but I will recount the story I have heard most often.

Sometime in the 1800′s, there was a woman living on Morrow Road, and she was home alone with her small child during a severe snow storm. A little past midnight, the woman went to check on her child, not having heard him for quite some while. When she reaches the child’s bed, she finds it empty. After a frantic search of the house with no sign of her son, she dashes outside into the storm, wearing nothing but her nightgown. It is said that the woman froze to death searching for her child. Her frozen body was found days later, but the child was never found.

Some of the other stories say, the mother had the baby out of wedlock, and abandoned him under a bridge on Morrow Road, but guilt ridden, she went back to retrieve the baby, but it was gone. There are several others, almost all involving a mother freezing to death searching for her lost child. There are some that say that the mother and child suffered much more brutal and violent deaths. Nothing has been able to be confirmed about a mother with children on the road, but even non-believers have to pause and take in the countless paranormal occurrences people have reported having on Morrow Road.

People have reported orbs floating in the air in the woods, the sounds of a baby crying somewhere in the distance, and some even report having seen the woman herself on the road dressed in a nightgown, screaming and crying “Where is my baby?.” Some accounts that even believers must take with a grain of salt say if you park your car where the bridge used to be on Morrow Road, and honk your horn 3 times, you will hear the baby cry.

At the moment there is even a movie in the makes about the road. The past few years near Halloween they have even held a Haunted Trail and Hayride on Morrow Road to help raise money for the movie. I visited the trail last year, and was not disappointed. The trail almost gets you lost in the woods with some sporadic ghouls to pop out and scare you, and if you believe, some even scarier things lurking around the next bend. So if you find yourself in my area, and are looking for a thrill, you might want to visit Morrow Road.
