What The Heck Are These Weird Tracks On The Bottom Of The Ocean?
Who Forted
When it comes to mysteries, there’s no better place for hiding them than the bottom of the ocean. In fact, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as much as 95% of the world’s oceans remain unexplored.
And yet some people don’t believe in sea monsters.
Well, thanks to the advent of the internet, we can do some of that exploring from the comfort of our computer chairs, and you never know what sorts of strange stuff will turn up. Our pal Samuel Burgan (AKA IceBurg) was doing just that, and found a bunch of bizarre markings on the ocean floor, so he sent a few snapshots our way.

Ocean Rover
A liens.
yes
First off, Google Maps/Earth is hardly an effective way to “explore” anywhere. Where I live, for example, in a suburb of Detroit, MI, the data was last updated in 2009 for aerial views and 2007 for streetview. Who’s to say that this data is up to date?
On top of that, and perhaps even more importantly, the answer is right there in your link:
“You see, it’s actually quite hard to measure the depth of the ocean. Sunlight, lasers, and other electromagnetic radiation can travel less than 100 feet below the surface, yet the typical depth in the ocean is more than two and a half miles. Sound waves are more effective. By measuring the time it takes for sound to travel from a ship to the sea floor and back, you can get an idea of how far away the sea floor is. Since this process — known as echosounding — only maps a strip of the sea floor under the ship, the maps it produces often show the path the ship took, hence the “ship tracks.” In this case, the soundings produced by a ship are also about 1% deeper than the data we have in surrounding areas — likely an error — making the tracks stand out more.”
Hey man. Don’t be confusing this sci-fi fantasy with your factual content. It’s just plain rude.
This post is worthless without coordinates.
32° 07′ 24.97″ N 55° 20′ 28.34″ W
South of the Congress Seamount, mid-Atlantic. Not too far from a bunch of other mid-Atlantic “stretch marks”.
Laminated metamorphic reef lines, intrusions through the host rock, usually and indication of precious metals , if gold was present the laminations would be layers of quarts , slate and ironstone all standing vertical like the pages of a book.
They are squeezed up through fissures and cracks in the sedimentary / host rock .
“weird tracks” are most likely ocean floor mountains / ridges / valleys – like mountains above ground they are shaped by wind and water currents
Sea combs.
Google maps doesn’t actually show the bottom of the ocean…. because its underwater. My understanding is they are created by aggregating other surveys (I.E. sonar).
A great tool to waste an afternoon with, but not an effective method of scientific exploration.
I think ive played this game before… But I remember it having at least 3 more colors
Actually, Skepticguy is correct. The higher resolution is actual surveys from NOAA and speculative drilling surveys that were passed to public domain once deemed worthless. The rest of the area is simply satellite surveys, which cannot accurately semis the dept of the water beyond 100′, at least not publicly.
ancient motherfucking aliens
Time to start reading ZetaTalk and stop with the speculation.
