When Government Preys On People

There is a uniquely American weakness — belief and trust in government and optimism even when it is not warranted. Perhaps the weakness results from generations of relatively honest government produced by an adherence to the Constitution and The Rule of Law and a unique amount of freedom that enabled personal initiative to overcome most obstacles.

Government constraints are now gone and so is much of the freedom. Anyone not wearing blinders should see the rampant corruption and evil inherent in current government. Yet, many fools continue to swallow the Kool-Aid version of propaganda government force-feeds them. Realization for them will surely come too late. The rest of us must try to protect ourselves from the predatory actions of the State.

Simon Black observes:

Most other cultures get it. If you go to Argentina, Vietnam, Italy, or China, people there have absolutely no trust or confidence in their governments.

It’s something that’s -almost- uniquely American– a lifetime of steady, bombastic propaganda that inculcates a deep belief that our system is the ‘best’.

And, even in the face of such overwhelming evidence, it’s still hard for people to break from this programming and acknowledge that their government is just as corrupt as Mexico’s… albeit slightly more sophisticated.

The politicians running the nation are sociopathic criminals, plain and simple. If you or I were to tap people’s phones or hack their Facebook accounts, or use our authority to bully opposition groups, we would be tossed in the slammer in no time… and branded by the media as moral delinquents.

History is replete with examples of this behavior. It appears to be the natural long cycle for civilizations. For a long time the US seemed immune from this cycle. That case no longer can be made.

There is nothing that can be done via the political process. History shows that power, once gained, is never relinquished willingly. Political choice, as suggested elsewhere, is between big evil and evil. Neither political party has any intention of reversing the process. Neither will provide the radical reform necessary to reverse the noxious trends. Both are political parties are responsible for existing conditions. Both benefit from them.
