Australia's Appalling Handling of the Boat Refugee Issue and its Missed Opportunity.

The Australian Government, of both persuasions (two party system) have an appalling record of treatment of “boat people” ie. refugees.

The richest nation on earth with the sparsest popiulation on earth feels the need to not only treat refugees like “dogs”, including, women and children but to send them packing to another impoverished tiny island nation instead of resettling them on our shores.

This is because they are too busy politicking to think outside the box.

If they did they would see the new arrivals who sacrifice all they have to make the perilous journey on dilapidated fishing boats to its north west coast or Christmas Is., belonging to Australia,  as a precious resouce not only of courage and fierce determination to succeed, badly lacking in the indiginous population – white and black, but also of economic benefit to the whole nation. Every refugee, legal or not who eventually settles here creates 1.2 jobs. 

The entire North West ie. 2/3rds of the nation is practically uninhabited, but rather than developing the country and opening it up to settlement with this precious resource of courage and fighting spirit, needed to pioneer this development, what does the Australian Government do. It not only imprisons them in inhuman conditions complete with inhuman private security guards with no accountability, but it sends them off to third world countries worse off than the one from which they came.

This is the great Australian suicide spirit embodied in and celebrated by their national song, Waltzing Matilda and  national holiday, Gallipoli day, celebrating their greatest ever wartime defeat!

Australia rode of the sheeps back and the cruel pastoalists who shot the indigenous population as vermin in its genesis and today rides off the back of the multinationals investment.

When will it ever take the initiative and do something for itself.

It had the chance with the beginnings of the computer industry but cowered.

It had the chance with the proper utilization of the Great Artesian bore, the largest underground water reservoir in the world (thousands of miles long) but is scared to use it effectively for fear they might suceed at something. At present it cannot be naturally replenished because it is too full!

It still has a chance with a great calibre people wanting to come here and risking all to do it but again it is too close minded, narrow and fearful to do anything for this nation off its own bat, and not relying on multinational companies to do it for them.

So be it. there’s an old saying “Use it or lose it.”
