America is finished.
It’s over.
Put a fork in it. It’s done.
All we can do now is wait for the implosion and make the best of it.
Liberty, constitutionally limited government and self-government are dreams of the past. They aren’t coming back.
More and more I hear sentiments like this expressed openly by friends and acquaintances. These are good people, smart people who have given up on the idea of fighting back for the principles that made American great through the system. Everything’s been decided, they say. What’s the use? The system is broken. It’s not coming back. The old checks and balances conceived by our founders have been unchecked and unbalanced. America is adrift – morally, spiritually, politically. We’re like a rudderless ship simply following the current of fad and fashion. Ideas no longer matter. Truth no longer matters. Right and wrong no longer matter.
While I have sympathy for this point of view, and while I agree those espousing these ideas may be right, something inside of me just rejects giving up.
Am I wrong?
Did our Founding Fathers give up? Can anyone say they did not have some serious skin in the game? Why didn’t these mostly wealthy and smart people just accept what would look today like some minor infractions on liberty? Why did they risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for their ideals of liberty? And weren’t they facing equally tough odds?
