The People Vs. Their Government And The Left-Right Division

Back during our nation’s infancy, the people were mostly united in their beliefs. Everyone wanted to have a minimal-government republic so they could live as free people. Sure, there were disagreements about how to bring about maximum liberty without the country falling apart, but the citizens of the new United States all knew that maximum liberty was the best thing to strive for.

Nowadays, you have the two sides of the political spectrum: left and right. The left tends to want equality over liberty, and the right tends to want liberty over equality. This divide can probably be traced back to the Progressive era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is when people began to split majorly on the issue of liberty and equality. And since then, the gap between the right and the left has continued to grow larger.

Some of our presidents, including Obama, have facilitated this division in ideology. There are so many people who believe that wealth must be redistributed in order to achieve economic equality. Many believe affirmative action policies must be in place to prevent discrimination. These infringe on the liberties of citizens.

Politicians love this division. They use it to further their political agendas, as they know that they have loyal followers who will back them. They can enact policies in the name of “equality” when it just furthers their own elitist goals.
The citizens of the United States must learn that they cannot be divided so much in ideology, as that will get them nowhere, and they will become divided even further. What we must all do is stand for liberty and freedom everywhere. If we can unite as a nation and stand against this growing division, we might just be able to save us from ourselves.

Look at all the scandals that have happened recently. Benghazi, IRS, AP and NSA. These are the kinds of evil things the government can get away with. They can keep promoting the left-right spectrum and get away with all kinds of things. The government is spying on its own citizens, and some people are defending it. That is simply outrageous. The founders would be revolted, and would have revolted, if you get what I’m saying.

I’m not calling for any sort of violent revolution. It simply seems that the left-right spectrum is becoming less relevant. How can we debate ideology if we are being watched constantly by a huge government anyways? What this country needs is more people to realize what kinds of bad things their government is doing and stand together in the name of liberty. We must stop being so divided into liberal versus conservative politics. At least for a little while.
