“We have more faith in what we imitate than in what we create.”

                                                                          – Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee died forty years ago today, but his legend has survived to near mythical proportions. Simply put Bruce Lee is one of the most important persons and Pop culture icons that ever lived. A man destined by fate to bridge the gaps between East and West. To celebrate his extraordinary life a new exhibit in Hong Kong opened this weekend, displaying rare images and items. Among these are a poem written along the banks of Lake Washington, sketches, photographs and writings ranging from deep philosophical lamentations to Nostradamus-like foresight of  how to develop gloves for future MMA sports leagues like the UFC. When Bruce Lee tragically died before the premiere of Enter the Dragon it sent shockwaves throughout the world. The film itself was a huge success and pretty much every teenage boy in America had a poster of Bruce Lee on his wall and a pair of nunchuks. Most of the times the chuks were homemade. Bruce Lee even Helped give another legend a break, when he introduced the world to karate champion Chuck Norris in Return of the Dragon. There wasn’t any time for Chuck Norris jokes while Bruce and Chuck were fighting to the death in the ruins of the Roman coliseum. The fight was epic and paved the way for a lengthy career for “Walker, Texas Ranger“.

Bruce Lee also helped launch Jim Kelly’s career. Kelly made his debut in Enter the Dragon, and as a cool brother wiTh an awesome afro, comedic acting chops and mad kung fu skills he quickly became an idol amongst the black youth. Kelly continued to make movies and used his fame and money by helping out and providing services to poverty stricken troubled teens of the inner city. Like Chuck Norris, Kelly’s life was turned around by Karate.

While Bruce didn’t get to enjoy the success of Enter the Dragon, future generations have rightfully hailed it as the greatest martial arts film ever made. Bruce was already filming his follow up to Dragon, a dream project he had total control over called Game of Death. While working on this film Lee mysteriously died from a sudden brain aneurism. The news of his death was shocking. It was hard to believe that the fittest man on the planet, he had only 1% body fat, could just collapse and die in the snap of a finger. Rumors began flying that Bruce was killed by the Chinese mafia, ancient curses, jealous lovers, allergic reactions or even a deadly batch of Nepalese Hash. Yes, the most shocking details to emerge from the death of Bruce Lee were the traces of Marijuana found in his stomach. Bruce Lee was many things. Father. Fighter. Philosopher. Teacher. Stoner?

A truly original thinker, in a milieu where originality was considered disrespectful of tradition…

I think there is a clue in the first part of this story. It may be a typo, 1% body fat is a death sentence in itself. Extreme athletes don’t want to get much below 11%. Consider that the brain is primarily composed of fats, possibly starving here to the point of barely functioning and evidence of prior seizures. His body weight a mere 125lbs, body fat at 11% (assuming typo) that means that the painkiller (often fat soluble) would have maybe 3 times its scheduled effect. Someone better versed in pharmacology might comment further.

      Dr. Google reveals:
AVERAGE Male – weight 180 @ 20% bf = 36lbs BF
B LEE weight 125 @ 10% bf = 12.5lbs BF

Equagesic is meprobamate and aspirin
Thus Lee would get 3 times the effective dose of Aspirin (bleeding can occur)
3 times the dose of meprobamate

Wikipedia NOTE: Equagesic was discontinued in the United States, possibly because of its toxic profile and more adequate drugs available. Specifically, meprobamate is more toxic than benzodiazepines, which are also useful as a muscle relaxant.
Martial artist Bruce Lee died of cerebral edema caused by allergic reaction to Equagesic, according to coroner examination. He died the 20th of July 1973 in Hong Kong.

      A world-class hero – KILLED BY DOCTORS.

      Great article:

What is seen is that…this intense, innovative and dedicated individual (Bruce Lee) was quite a successful achiever.

But, in regards to most opinions that he had some how died or overdosed on ‘pot’ or other drugs does not appear to be correct.

While it is seen that Bruce did occasionally ingest hashish in order to calm his very intense energies….this is not what killed this individual.

Firstly, it is important for individuals to know the inner activity Bruce was involved in when discussing how he was murdered and that….the Chinese culture, especially those in the martial arts culture, those of the Chinese martial arts culture from Oakland, Calif. in particular, were quite controlling and racist when it came to Chinese Gung-Fu instructors teaching outsiders, meaning …those who are not full blooded Chinese.

Bruce, being a non-racist and an innovator, wanted to share the beauty of Chinese martial arts with the world and in his efforts to teach those of all races and backgrounds, was challenged by those of the old Chinese ruling caste, who wanted Bruce to teach only Chinese.

The warrior that was chosen by those of the controlling martial arts caste was called “Wong jack man”, Bruce won the fight / match in approx. 3 minutes.

But, this did not sit well with the Chinese controlling caste and so…they devised a way to get rid of Bruce permanently while making it look as if it was an accident.

It is seen that….in their efforts to research Bruce, they learned that Bruce was not only a myopic ( Where Bruce could not see clearly without his glasses or contacts ) but that…he also suffered from epileptic seizures and that in researching, they found that Bruce was allergic to certain chemical interactions of certain herbs and medicines, due to this epilepsy.

And so, the plan was to have Bruce ingest certain plants or herbs ( which the Chinese are experts in ) that would create an unstable interaction and possibly cause death. These herbal catalysts would create explosive and terminal interactions when ingested together with those medicines that Bruce took in order to calm his epileptic seizures.

One might say “why would a fellow martial arts group, especially that of the same origin, Chinese, feel the need to eliminate another fellow martial artist who was supporting Chinese martial arts so powerfully?”

And this…is what nobody can understand, and therefore, most have accepted that Bruce somehow died due to either ingesting too much hashish or being attacked by Japanese or other martial arts’ bad guys or because Bruce overworked himself.

In fact, once one knows the attitude, intent and actions of another…it becomes quite clear, as to the purpose of Bruce’s homicide.

The perspective, from the ruling Chinese martial arts caste was…that Bruce was taking away their protection and there were some in those ranks who jealously guarded certain secrets of the martial arts.

They see martial arts as a type of special quality that helped them win many Wars between opposing factions, such as…the Japanese and that this was not just a martial arts issue but also a national issue where Bruce was literally teaching…the “enemy”, from their perspective.

And this caused great tension and frustration with those in that old martial arts ruling caste. One of the biggest problems was Bruce’s popularity and that the ruling caste feared what he might do in terms of his knowledge of the art and his tendency to expose so much for personal gain in regard to the art.

The value of martial arts is that it creates a certain personal dignity or sense of self-esteem which can be beneficial for many individuals who lack such, and who might otherwise never be able to confidently defend themselves because of their size or some other supposed inadequacy, and this can be quite valuable to some individuals.

It also promotes discipline, which many individuals desperately need in their lives, and it also presents a philosophy that is based on self-protection, and protection of others.

The detrimental side is that it can be misused by those who are not conscientious, who have no compassion for others, and who would misuse the art as a way of bullying or harming others.

And so, Bruce was seen in the eyes of this old ruling caste as a traitor, who was in a way…selling secrets to the enemy and this was too much for these old ruling martial artists who were quite set in their ways and had much fear of exposure.

And so, a plan was devised to kill Bruce, so to end the fear of what he might do in the future and to protect their traditional way of life in martial arts and culture.

And, as Bruce’s Son, Brandon Lee also began to speak out, offering more unique perspectives and insights regarding martial arts and life in general, they realized that Brandon also needed to be eliminated before he became too powerful and recognized for his enlightened knowledge and also …for being the Son of a great martial arts warrior.

And so, a plan was created to make his death also look like an accident where certain individuals were paid large amounts of money to look the other way. Even the detectives who investigated the death of Brandon were paid off, and so, the lives of two great leaders were snuffed out due to the fears and inflexible mindset of certain Chinese martial arts elite, fearful of sharing their personal Art with others for fear that it might be used against them.

Even Bruce’s wife, Linda, was threatened at a later date, after she began a campaign to honor her husband and bring history and encouragement to those of the martial arts culture.

In that, she was telephoned by that same Chinese martial arts group from Oakland and told to stop making those national public speeches glorifying Bruce and his Art Jeet Kune Do (The way of the stopping fist or intercepting hit) or she would suffer the consequences.

Shortly after this threat, Linda moved far away to Idaho and stopped making those public statements for fear of her life from the same individuals who killed her husband.

It is often shocking to know the truth and to see the deeper fears and prejudice perceptions that people follow in their lives and the depth that some will go in order to hold onto those limiting beliefs, attitudes and perceptions….for fear of change.

      With respect…
