Longing To Be Free

I always find it interesting that I receive more letters from readers when I simply write about my emotions regarding what is happening in America. When I deliver researched articles that I’ve worked on for weeks, I get letters, but not the volume I get when I write from my heart. Real Americans, Decoration Day, and The Christmas Thing, resulted in my mailbox being flooded with letters from readers who said I’d struck a chord with them. Those folks, especially those my age, all seem to understand exactly what I mean, but it’s only when I write truly, “from the heart.”

“Are You Proud To Be An American?” was published on May 13, 2013, and I received a letter in my mailbox which made me weep. It still makes me weep every time I read it. I asked Shirley, from Wolverhampton, England, if I could share her wonderful heartfelt letter. So, here is the letter I received from a woman in England who longs for freedom, and still looks at America as a shining beacon of liberty.

Dear Kelleigh

Thank you for your recent article. I live in the UK, I am not American, but have always loved the true spirit of what America stands for. I cried when I read your article – “Are you proud to be an American.”

For years I have looked at options to legally come to your country, sadly to no avail. I do not have family, professional qualifications or money to legally enter. There is nothing in me that could just come like millions do ‘illegally.’

So, over the years as history has changed, I’ve watched from afar, still holding on to my American dream, until alas like your beautiful country, something inside vanished, maybe the incentive and desire to come died – the inspiration that somewhere there was a place geographically where the freedom resonated with something in me, to live, to be, with little to no law imposed by man which suffocates and controls the human spirit.

Now I look at America and see what it is becoming, and it may even be worse than the UK in some respects. Yet, still my heart loves the original founding of it. I still love the fact you have talk radio, can write freely, and possess a love of freedom. I dislike those Americans who don’t appreciate what they had, that their ancestors literally died, and left people behind to get there for them.

God Bless you Kelleigh. Whilst our world may be infested by evil, I still see and know people who possess a love of freedom, how things should be, and will write wonderful, yet sad articles about what is happening. They speak out at great expense, and still possess a sense of right. They love God. They still mainly come from America. You still shine in many ways.

Shirley’s letter brought me to tears knowing that someone in the UK has the heart for liberty, and still looks to our America with a longing for freedom. I wrote back to Shirley because I was so touched by her beautiful note to me. Here’s what I said:

Oh Shirley, you make me weep…my paternal grandfather came here from England in the 1600s…Morse is the name, it was my maiden name. I’m so disturbed at what is happening that I’m bereft of how to encourage my fellow countrymen to fight it. They all seem apathetic. It’s really disheartening. I just pray, and hope that they will see before it’s too late.
