The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) publication Foreign Policy (FP) says that the US government ignored the fact that chemical weapons were used in Iraq.

FP reported that they obtained this information from a former intelligence operative that provided declassified Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) files.

Those documents “are tantamount to an official American admission of complicity in some of the most gruesome chemical weapons attacks ever launched.”

The former Bush administration shared intelligence with Bagdad concerning Iran’s military stratagem which led to the chemical attack.

Sarin gas was used by the Free Syrian Army (FSA), according to Carla del Ponte, a member of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry (IICI) on Syria.

Ponte said that “her panel had not yet seen any evidence of Syrian government forces using chemical weapons, but that more investigation was needed.”

In the Iraq War, Saddam Hussein used a combination of mustard and sarin gas between 1980 – 1988. At this time, the US and Iraq were not at odds.

Hussein used troops in Halabja to take control of the Iraqi town. Aircraft dropped chemical weapons on the residents; as well as Kurdish forces.

The collateral damage was counted as between 3,200 to 5,000 dead and between 7,000 and 10,000 injured.

The sarin gas that the FSA used at Aleppo may have come from deals made by Donald Rumsfeld, future Defense Secretary under the George W. Bush administration, was sent by the Reagan administration to Saddam Hussein wherein a deal to sell sarin gas was made.

This would alter prove to be Saddam’s undoing; as Rumsfeld would later claim as Defense Secretary that Saddam had possession of weapons of mass destruction, i.e. sarin.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), sarin was first produced in Germany in 1938 and used as a pesticide.

In the 1950s sarin was used by NATO as a “standard chemical weapon” and produced in both the USSR and the US exclusively for military purposes.

Although sarin production in the US was halted in 1956, existing stockpiles were reduced with heat to its based constituent elements until 1970.

With the help of Rumsfeld, sarin was used in Iraq and killed nearly 5,000 in the Kurd city of Halabja.

Later, those same stockpiles sold to Saddam by Rumsfeld became the controversy and the weapons of mass destruction that led to the war, capture and execution of Saddam.

Some of those stockpiles mysteriously made their way to Libya and came under the control of Muammar Gaddafi.

Last May, The Obama administration has sent covert agents to deliver weapons purchased “from the stockpiles of Libya’s former dictator Muammar Gaddafi” to the Salafi extremists known as the FSA.

The state-run Chinese media outlet Xinhua warned that the US military should remember the Iraq war before going in after Syria.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been given notice by the Obama administration regarding the alleged use of sarin gas.

Xinhua stated the US jump to conclusions regarding chemical weapons is “rhetoric” and the “recent flurry of consultations between Washington and its allies, indicates that they have put the arrow on the bowstring and would shoot even without a UN mandate. That would be irresponsible and dangerous. For starters, the current scenario is reminiscent of the lead-up to the Iraq War, which the United States staged with allegations about weapons of mass destruction that later turned out to be false.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting with his security cabinet regarding Syria which prompted a two-day drill to be conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in preparation.
